If you watch the play closely.... When Jones lines the hit up originally, Bergeron's shoulder is facing Jone's chest and right as Jones get close Bergeron slows down and turns his back towards jones..... at that point Jones cant put the breaks on and abandon the hit.. its too late
At 0:35 he looks Bergeron looks directly at Jones. He sees him there, he knows he's about to get hit so he slows up and turns his back to Jones to draw Jones into taking a penalty. Unfortunately for Bergeron it turned out a lot worse then he wanted it to. But it's his own damn fault. Players should worry more about playing the game instead of constantly trying to draw penalties against the other team.

You're right all players do try to draw penalties, but trying to draw a penalty by causing someone to hit you from behind just isn't a smart decision. When bergeron stopped like that he put himself into an extremely dangerous situation and also put Randy Jones into a situation where he had to make a split second decision.

No Bergeron shouldn't have just let Jones go get the puck. What he should have done was go get the puck himself and continue the play. But what he did was slam on the breaks in front of the boards when he knew Jones was right on his ass, which caused Jones to have no choice but to take a penalty. Bergeron wanted a power play for his team and he got one. Good for him, but his injury was his own fault for trying to draw a penalty.

Ok joejoe I know shit about hockey? I know enough about hockey to know that back before Bettman pussyfied the league this type of shit didn't happen nearly as often. These days games are nothing but 60 minute power plays, and players do whatever they have to do to make sure their team is the one on the power play. That's why Bergeron missed the rest of the season, because he tried to sucker Jones into a penalty. He didn't "slow down" he slammed on the brakes leaving Jones no choice.

And at times, some players have MADE themselves vulnerable, you know? Like Eric Lindros for prime example! lol, that tool was dumb as shit. These guys have to keep their heads up and be aware. The brutal hit was on Pacioretty, a Canadien, but this could have happened to any other player. Is it not enough that a vertebrae was fractured and that his whole career is put on the line? Does someone have to die for the NHL to open its eyes?

honestly im a bruins fan and yeah i think the flyers are tough at times theyve crossed the line. But in no way do i think they meant to hurt bergeron the way matt cooke meant to hurt savard. i remember watching the game on tv and there was a fast pace, 1 or 2 fights in the previous minutes and the crowd was so loud. after the hit the players, fans and announcers were just stunned and i think wanted 2 go home or 2 the hospital to see how he was doing.

At 0:35 he looks Bergeron looks directly at Jones. He sees him there, he knows he's about to get hit so he slows up and turns his back to Jones to draw Jones into taking a penalty. Unfortunately for Bergeron it turned out a lot worse then he wanted it to. But it's his own damn fault. Players should worry more about playing the game instead of constantly trying to draw penalties against the other team.

They both had a chance to avoid that happening. Jones was trying to get to the puck. Bergeron stopped a couple feet shy of the boards trying to draw a penalty. One man was playing the game and the other was trying to draw a penalty. He got what he deserved.

thats true but trying to draw a penalty isnt half as bad as snapping a guys neck off the boards. Every player tries to draw penalties every now and then, including randy jones. Its a completely different thing to almost end a guys career

I agree with you to a certain extent. Injuring someone is worse when you do it on purpose. This was an accident. You're right all players do try to draw penalties, but trying to draw a penalty by causing someone to hit you from behind just isn't a smart decision. When bergeron stopped like that he put himself into an extremely dangerous situation and also put Randy Jones into a situation where he had to make a split second decision.

No Bergeron shouldn't have just let Jones go get the puck. What he should have done was go get the puck himself and continue the play. But what he did was slam on the breaks in front of the boards when he knew Jones was right on his ass, which caused Jones to have no choice but to take a penalty. Bergeron wanted a power play for his team and he got one. Good for him, but his injury was his own fault for trying to draw a penalty.

All I'm saying is if Bergeron hadn't stopped like he did he would have never gotten hurt. He would have got a normal body check from the side and he would have been fine. That play happens 20 times in every game. But occasionally somebody does something like what Bergeron did to try to cause a penalty and sometimes it leads to something bad like this. In a situation like that you gotta play hard and protect yourself, not stop at the last second so the guy behind you has no choice but to hit you.

Johnson was clearly lining him up the whole way cause he wasn't going to win the race to the puck. He could have easily held off hitting him. His head is facing Bergeron the whole way, he isn't even concerned about the puck.

Clearly Ediconeg666 you know shit about hockey, The only reason Bergeron slowed down was so that he wouldn't go flying into the boards himself after he banked the puck off the boards. Also by slowing down that gave Jones a notice that he should slown down too. If he did Bergeron wouldn't have missed the rest of the season. Don't post a comment if you are a fucking retard.

Ok joejoe I know shit about hockey? I know enough about hockey to know that back before Bettman pussyfied the league this type of shit didn't happen nearly as often. These days games are nothing but 60 minute power plays, and players do whatever they have to do to make sure their team is the one on the power play. That's why Bergeron missed the rest of the season, because he tried to sucker Jones into a penalty. He didn't "slow down" he slammed on the brakes leaving Jones no choice.

Its unfortunate what happened.... but i think if you watch the play when Jones first lines up for the hit Bergeron's shoulder is facing Jone's chest, meaning jones is going for a clean hit.... and by the time Jones gets close Bergeron had slowed down and turned his back towards Jones... and Jones cant stop at that point. Jones wasnt charging for a hit from behind by any means. You dont have to break to not hit the boards. You take the puck and turn along with the boards.. you dont have to stop
