This games tastes of fail to me. Why the 2048 setting? WipeOut HD Fury takes in the 2240s, and it felt great because you could have really seen an evolution since the days of the F3600 formula when you looked at the FX450 ships in Fury, like you'd see the evolution comparing an F1 car of the 80s to one of today.

Also, that snapshot thing is designed to fail, unless they don't implement face recognition.

I'm not sure, but if the timeline says that HD Fury took place at the same (or right after) time as original HD did, then that would mean that they're still in the FX350 league, taking place in between the FX300 and FX400, in 2197 and 2207 respectively.

Apparently 2048 is a sort of prologue game to the series in general, taking place before even the original WipEout (and its sequel, which is of course 2097)

From what I can tell the game is in two parts, the new "old" part, the 2048 part, with new ships and tracks, then the cross platform part with the HD/Fury tracks and ships. You can see the 2048 ships don't have the light trails for instance which started in 2097.

@MoonCrashed - It's probably because the latest features are just better suited for most players today, considering some of the weapons (see: Plasma) and getting yourself out of a pinch situation, especially at early races if all of a sudden the AI gangs up on you (which is rare nowadays, though)

or it could just be Sony themselves making the call. Executive Meddling (TV Tropes, you never fail me), but at least it's an easier option than just discarding a weapon without use in the originals.

@WipEout2048 - If you are in any way affiliated with Studio Liverpool, please ask them to re-employ The Designers Republic, or whatever that company has evolved into now, so that we can have the cold, bleak but ultimately super cool setting of the first two games in the series (I can't say if Wipeout 3 had that same setting as I never played it, I'd upgraded to a Dreamcast by then). Wipeout HD is cool and all, but it's lost that edginess and mysteriousness of Wipeout 1 and 2097...

Even though the tilt features and back pads are cool, I still want to play games the normal way with both of those great analogue sticks and playstation buttons. The other thing that is worrying me is that the system looks really big just like the first PSP 1000 was like. Those are my main complaints as of now (not sure about battery life yet) but the rest of the system looks fantastic. I really can't wait until the system comes out later this year.

Sony was working on this since the early stages of the PS2 and had several games launched with the augmented reality & upon hearing Sony's attempt at motion gaming with the 6axis, Nintendo launched an all motion gaming console. Kinect is fun but as practical and accurate as the move. We can expect to see kinect launch a motion controller w/in the next year to be able to release competitive accurate motion gaming titles 4 their hdw
