yeah, ~500 pts is the average for that technique; sometimes the game goes "holy crap" and grants you extra if you do it perfectly
about the online multiplayer, well, it's funny you should mention
i've looked into ways the engine could be duplicated for some sort of fan-based online syndicate (like how stepmania is a clone of ddr, or osu! is a clone of elite beat agents/ouendan), and it's very possible
but since parappa the rapper is somewhat obscure, it'll probably never happen :C
If your interested, I'll try to upload some of my videos and you can tell me what you think. What did you use to record your videos? Cause all I have is my Webcam and my digital sound cable.
What you did was kind of stumble on the "favored groove" of the game. There used to be a video of stage 8 where someone got to Cool and just repeated the groove line over and over using a single button each measure to get the world record score on the song.
@Zashxq Actually, no. If you break up each measure into 4 beats, using a button with a two-syllable word... An example.
O-O-O-O- | O-O-O-O- would be two chunks pressing every beat.
O-OO-OO- | O-OO-OO- is the engine's favoried rhythm.
So, instead of 1,2,3,4... you want 1,2,2.5,3.5,4. or one beat, two beat, two and a half beat, three and a half beat, four beat. (Using "Fu-nny" as a two-syllable word, it would sound like "Funny fuh-unny fuh-funny")
@digiangel234 i actually analyzed the engine like this for a while; do you have concrete truth of this? that'd be really good to know!
however, this doesn't appear to be right. the engine was slightly changed after ptr and umjam, as well as the way it treats input. in the psx versions, those rhythms worked best and scored the most points. in ptr 2, a line using offbeats such as OO-O-O-O-O-O-O-O will score even higher, and inputs between beats will sometimes boost score also (swing).
@Zashxq Like I said, the guy took down the world record video of stage 8. But the entire time, he just kept using the same button for a whole line or alternating between to so that he didn't repeat himself. The whole time it was O-OO-OO- O-OO-OO- and he'd get over 1k points per line.
are you sure that was the pattern? you're making me want to try it :O
i mean, it was the most on the OTHER engines where 254 was the max you could get for 2 full lines, and fever mode worked that way (where you'd press 1 button with that "favored rhythm" and get thousands of points after going into fever), but 1K in parappa 2? are you absolutely sure?
@Zashxq I'm quite sure. He'd just go like "Doesn't Do-doesn't Do-doesn't Doesn't Do-doesn't Do-doesn't Doesn't Do-doesn't Do-doesn't Doesn't Do-doesn't Do-doesn't" 12XX points "Wave Wa-Wave Wa-Wave Wave Wa-Wave Wa-Wave Wave Wa-Wave Wa-Wave Wave Wa-Wave Wa-Wave" 900ish "People Pe-People Pe-People One On-One On-One" 600ish and so on. It actually sounds kind of sick, really. Well, up until the extra ending where he just mashed buttons. That sounded horrible.
@digiangel234 okay, so i tried it and it managed to get scores near where i'd use my usual method, but there wasnt anything extreme i was noticing (though when i placed O-OO-OO- to -O-OO-OO there was a significant scoring difference; 200ish to 500ish)
would you happen to remember the name of the video? or the person who made it? i might be able to find a backup of it somewhere
well if u beat the game with parappa's orange(red)hat u get blue u beat with blue then get get pink beat it with then u get gold which is what hes using
After you get the yellow hat, push X to go to the title screen. Once everybody is standing on the screen, use the right-analog stick to cycle between hats. Hold the stick down on the color hat you wish to have and press start. Your hat will be that color.
dude! your awsome at this!

He took the video down, though, so...

His original hat is Orange, not Red. It may look red, but it's been officially described as orange. I also have an authentic PaRappa beanie. :D

Grrr lucky. Where did you get it?
MooCowOe 3 years ago
eBay when PtR2 first came out. I had this blue tanktop and wore baggy jeans with it when I'd go out. Awesome stuff.
I never wear it anymore 'cause my head's a bit too big for the original shape and I don't wanna stretch it out. :x

I looked on eBay and theres another one there :O
Lol, don't stretch out the hat!
