That's Erik Satie with the bowler hat. This was shot one year before his death. Even at the ripe old age of 59, the man was the coolest. Puts modern avant-garde artists to shame.
I've been a fan of Rene Clair for a long, long time, seen most if not all of his "mainstream" films, & heard the legend of this, his cinematic debut, & an anomaly (in some ways) in his career as well as the history of creative film-making. To finally get to see it now, even w/o the orig. sndtrk. (this 1 seems to work quite compellingly w/ the flow of images, actually) is a thrill almost beyond describing...merci mille fois!!
Intéressant, mais pourquoi n'avoir pas conserver la musique originale d'Erik Satie ? Contrainte technique peut-être ? Cette musique de fond ne colle pas du tout à l'atmosphère et l'époque de ce film. Dommage, sinon bonne initiative.
Guys, there's no sound!!!

Looks like it was Erik Satie, by the credits at the beginning.

Erik Satie did the original music, this is another thing... I mean somebody put their own music into this old film.
If you want to watch the movie with it's original movie, see this: watch?v=ueGdyVLLqp0&feature=related

No, that's not the original soundtrack. The original is composed by Erik Satie. The style is very different.
