@yococomanolo my thoughts exactly! LOL! I used to watch his show on TV as a kid, I was like 3 years old first time I saw him, it was love at first sight, I could sit there staring at him for hours (still do) I had absolutely no interest in the piano or his music whatsoever! It was all about the man behind the music, I just loved him so much. I must have been in my late 20's before I actually started paying attention to his music and went "Hey he's playing a piano up there - cool!" . :D
@fmadork1916 The piano in this video is a cheap rhinestone piano, but his prize possession was an over sized grand piano covered with gold leaf. He referred to it as priceless.
Who needs Liberace when you have such stellar 'stars' such as Lindsay Lohan, Amy Winehouse, Justin Bieber, the little snot, or Britney Spears, the psychotic whore from hell. LOL! God, today's 'stars' leave a lot to be desired.
Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin is one of my all time favorites. No one has ever played it as beautifully as Lee. Thank you so much for sharing this. Such a lovely selection of Gershwin. He was a pianist of the angel choir. Thank you and God bless.
Sandi, Earth Angel in Wisconsin aka Dragonese1 She who hears the silent tears of others.
I believe the piece LIberace starts with in this medley is "Rhapsody in Rhinestones." hahaha! Awesome piano-playing, though! The audience really loved the Gershwin.
Wow, he was one of a kind and they broke the mold. never seen anything like him , and I don't think I ever will! He was great at everything showman and music wise.
i cannot believe they got Michael Douglas to play liberace. It probably want show a younger liberace . Michael was quite handsome when he was young but he is not as handsome as liberace was in his older age.
I saw this Great Entertainer LIve in a College Concert in 1967. He completely had the entire audience of College students in the palm of his hand. He had 11 encores and just before the 11th one he came out and said. "This has to be the last one, kids"... concert started at 8 pm was supposed to be over at 10pm lasted till 12:15... what a great showman
A medley of pieces which begins with George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue which leads into a set of popular Broadway show tunes and concludes with a reprise of Rhapsody in Blue.
mr showmanlee, it would be nice if you can share the video of liberace in the 60's playing rachmaninoff's 18th variation from the theme of paganini. thanks.
Liberace was, is and will always be THE SHOW to beat!!! No entertainer (to-date) can touch his abilities or earnings!!! He is simply spectacular and I wish I was able to see him in concert. I was in the sixth grade when he passed away and really knew little about him. What an Entertainer!!!! Thank God for Liberace and may God Rest His Soul!!! Rest Peacefully Mr. Showmanship!!!!
It's so wonderful reading your comments about Liberace. I saw him in concert so many times and knew him personally. He was, and still is FABULOUS! I wish we could bring him back for people like yourself to enjoy all over. again. Since that's impossible, at least we have these treasured videos to watch. We sue miss you Liberace.
@swingmusic001 - oddly enough, I think I was in 6th grade when I first saw Liberace in concert, an experience I'll never forget. While I've since seen many rock concerts and other events, none have ever matched the electricity of that Liberace show and the sheer exhilaration I felt that night.
@swingmusic001 - oddly enough, I think I was in 6th grade when I first saw Liberace in concert, an experience I'll never forget. While I've since seen many rock concerts and other events, none have ever matched the electricity of that Liberace show and the sheer exhilaration I felt that night. Now that was show business!
@swingmusic001 during the 60's I never missed a performance he was giving in NYC (when NYC really had entertainment). I seen him at the Royal Box in the Waldorf Astoria many times and each was better than the previous. I modeled my style of playing after him and only wished I had a fraction of his talent. Will there ever be another Liberace??? I'm sure there will but not in my lifetime
My question is;Liberace had brothers and a sister I believe...didn't any of them have children? And if so ,where are they at now?Why aren't they hosting shows, playing pianos and such? And does anyone have any information his(Liberace's) last TV appearence on "Oprah Winfrey's Show"?
Liberace had 2 brothers and a sister. His sister, Angie, had 2 childen, and his older brother George, had 2 step-children. Also, his younger brother, Rudy, had 4 children. However, none of the children were musically inclined and were not interested in show business. Most of the children live in Calif.
I know he wasn't interested in women, but I wish he would have passed his DNA onto another to keep his talent/legacy alive. Imagine his son or daughter playing now in Vegas!! I guess he never thought he would pass away that soon/ or maybe he never thought about his name and talent in a future sibling.
The songs I remembered the names of in this Medley after Rhapsody are: Embraceable You, Swannie, Fancinatin' Rythum, & Who Could Ask for Anything More.
This is taken from Liberace's Apperance on The Tonight Show when it was Hosted by Johnny Carson. Yahama Custom Made this 9.5 foot Concert Grand Piano for Liberace and a few others.
Yeah that may be true about him being a Baldwin Artist, However, Liberace had piano that was a baby grand Stienway & Sons as well as one that was owned by the Great Frederick Chopin which was a Plial. (not sure on speling of this) and he also had some pianos that were Yamaha as well, according to Robin Leach of the Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.
yes, but another thing that both of you failed to mention is that Baldwin had Liberace under contract, he had to play Baldwin pianos anytime he was 'on stage' that and I know for a fact that is a baldwin, I've played that particular piano
The piano can be found in the second building of the Liberace Museum in Las Vegas, NV. Well worth the trip. All of his pianos, cars, wardrobe, and bling can also be found there.
There are two of them, one is on the floor roped off, the other one they wheel out for performances. As far as I know, you'd have to arrange something with the museum.
Oh, this is a Baldwin. Check it out at 3:25-3:26. They paid him big money to go around saying he only played Baldwins. They gave him the pianos to play, too.
Loved it too, thank you. could watch that all day long. Doesn't that piano look stunning spinning around catching the light when he starts to play 'I Got Rhythm' What a fabulous idea that was of his, truely far out in such a classy way.
what a legend of his time.
