i modified my d-pad and it has a girl with big boobs on it....i bought a lil badge that is the same size took off the pin and you can have a d-pad with mostly anything....mcdonalds....skull­l...ussr....stewie griffin as your d-pad...pretty sweet and it doesnt afect your playing

Great Tut. Been getting ready for MK 9 so I needed to upgrade the Dpad. Btw, I used too thick of plastic the first time which caused my dpad not to move at all. Just letting everyone know that don't use too thick of plastic. Pringles lid, or a Yoplait Yogurt casing(what I used, didnt have anything else) will work perfect. Thanks

Y do u people break the screws, you can buy t8 torch security bits from any hardware store. And also pushing those clips in on the d pad is probably as much easy as sterling that pringuls cap. Retinue video but nice job on the sanding I have to give u props on that.

Though it take a bit of practice to get a feel for it as your are to regular button pushing rather than an almost joy-stick kind of movement, hope this helps try this before the sanding or the knife method (which I have found does not help).

I think I found another answer, the PS3 controller D-pads are separate buttons while the Xbox 360 is a "Disc" on top of a sensor, what I have noticed most people try to do is push it down on the edges which is of course what you do with is PS3 but 360 pads are not quite the same design. I have found that if you put your thumb and apply small pressure on the middle of the pad then titl the pad into desired direction whilst keeping you thumb in the middle it should work well

This does not fix the problem I find with the D-pad. The main problem I see is that the whole d-pad can be pushed in from the center like one big button. This creates what I call "direction confusion" where more buttons are contacted than the direction you actually want to go in. The fix for this is way easier, I just add 3 little squares of duct tape directly in the center of the four buttons on the green board for that little gray d-pad knob to sit up on so the center does not push down.

If you buy the t8 security screwdriver it has the hole in it for the pin so you don't have to snap it out.

@lockerz4you it's not that there is a reduction in response TIME, it's that before the mod, the controller sometimes doesn't register presses at all, and this makes it ALWAYS register input, as well as make it pleasantly clicky.

I'll spare you the dumb Scooby-Doo jokes and just thank you for this video, which has made my controller a whole lot more responsive. Limiting yourself to an obscure brand of potato chips really isn't necessary, though... I've found that the mod works just as well with the top of a tub of Cool Whip. It's a hardware mod by way of Jeff Foxworthy, I suppose.

Just want to let everyone know this mod is well worth the time.

I've been getting seriously in to 2D fighters so I was in dire need of a better pad. This mod was quick, cheap, and easy, and has increased my game by a noticeable amount.

To help out some people (I'm a perfectionist), you can use a quarter to trace the circle for the plastic.

And getting off the d-pad thing apart (took forever for me!), you use use a screwdriver on one of the clips, and use a knife to get under it and pop it up.

My friend and I did the mod, and the dpad definitely became more responsive! We tried it in SF4, but ended up getting frustrated and just went back to the analog though... I'm pretty sure we didn't do anything wrong. Maybe the dpad just isn't for SF4? =/

I have yet to try the pringles thing, but I did sand around the edges... well not exactly.. I used a dremmel...so same deal... I feel like the up/down and diag axis are much improved, however when i press left or right they often register as diag's or jumps/ducks. so pretty much characters like ryu play rad, and chun li (with back forw back forw) combo is now impossible. IDK. Ima try the pringles top and see if it corrects this, i hope it does
