  • Some bread recipies are on a knead to know basis. People that make bread are rising to the occasion. There's no loafing at your place. Flour power! Sometimes people feel punchy when making bread. It's also a pressing issue.People were bowled over when watching the video. Hopefully the effort will pan out. These puns are great any way you slice it.

  • this video was so helpful. i have always been affraid to try to make homemade bread. it always seemed so technical and exact. i have been watching all your soap videos and i have all the materials to attempt that projec this weekend. now this video has me wanting to make bread this weekend too. that bowl is so awesome. i dont have anything like that.

  • @brendaclee3 Yes, all five of them can make bread, even if it's just with a breadmaker!

  • Nancy all the things you do...kneading bread...rototilling the garden...putting windows on the tipi...dosent your back ever bother you? what do you take for back pain?

  • @pearlsnpeapods Well, I sit in my lazyboy type chair with my legs up and a comfortable chair back that supports me. I go for walks and swing my arms. I try to alternate what I do, so I rototill, then sit and pull out grass, then I sit and journal on live journal. Then I may go in the car somewhere.

  • @pearlsnpeapods I jsut try to use differnet positions all the time so I am using different muscles. If my back hurts after that, I hang in the inverter or take ibuprophen. 2-3 Xstrenghts if it's really bad. About once a couple of weeks. I also go to the chiropractor if it stays bad, about once a month.

  • I've just started making bread by hand using the Tassajara bread recipe (I normally use a bread machine), and I think your video is fantastic. It turns out I've been adding the flour to the sponge incorrectly, and your video has showed me how to do it correctly. THANK YOU!! As far as the kneading goes, can you tell me just how long I need to knead it by hand? I've been doing it for about 15 minutes, but I'm nor sure it's enough. (If this is covered in your video, I apologize, I have noisy kids)

  • @ottermum I just knead it until it's a little sticky but no longer gooey as I'm always adding flour as I knead. Once it's to that point, I don't usually knead it for long, just five minutes or so. The sponge rise replaces a lot of kneading.

  • @NancyToday Thank  you! I'm just going through your other breadmaking videos compiling a playlist for more tips. Today's batch of bread seems to have been kneaded correctly as it didn't require any more flour for the shaping. Thank you again, I really enjoy your videos!

  • cant locate hot to make the bread sponge either, and how much yeast do I use for the amount you show?

    My 4 year od daughter is now watching your cooking videos she is our head mixer and our 8 year old the head chef ;)

  • I do like my bowl. It is big enough that there's room to move around in there. My art of domesticity, eh? now that's a new way of looking at it! LOL

  • Yes, you can use regular flour. If it is white, then you need to add enough till the dough isn't sticky at all. I'm tickled pink that you like my videos!

  • Salt inhibits the rising of the yeast. Some people can't have salt. You can add it if you want.

  • can you tell me how to sub oatmeal for eggs?

  • cook up some oatmeal with water.  stir it till it's really gooey. then substitute it equally.

  • Yes, I agree - why don't hava any chickens, Nancy? I breed own chicken and hens.

  • Well, where do I start...raccoons, getting pecked, hens getting pecked by roosters, I'd feel sorry for them cooped up and let them out and they'd peck my house and they'd wreck all the places I gardened. How to keep them warm in the winter...frozen water all the time, keeping them from eating their eggs, my hands getting pecked, slaughtering the chickens...I've done it so long...no more! The commitment to be home when I was a travelwriter...didn't need that.
