  • IROC cars had hand-me-down cup engines. I believe that now that NASCAR needs their engines bc of economy, they dont have the money for IROC

  • Only Earnhardt, Gordon, Tony or Kyle could of saved that car, what a talent

Dale was, Great Talent...... Sure miss da Man,,,, Great Human Being,,,

  • sigh and to think Earnhardt would have similar trouble in the same year only in a cup car and in turn 3 and 4 ...... WE MISS YOU DALE!!! R.I.P.

  • damn those are some pretty cars

  • That was a pretty awesome finish. Thanks for posting it! I captured this and had it on TBK years ago.

  • Would you happen to have the post race interview from Earnhardt/Cheever?

  • Where did Jarrett come from??? He was nowhere close to the lead pack with 2 to go!!! Way to go Jarrett!!!

    RIP Sr., we miss you...

  • RIP #3 Dale Earnhardt Sr.

  • Dale's car was 4 or 5 different colors

  • Also, this is the sort of racing I want to see!!! I want drivers to be allowed to block! I absolutely HATE "after you" racing, which is what NASCAR is. They need to allow the drivers to FIGHT each other like they did here.

  • @UltimateWheelman You sir, are the kind of fan that makes me cringe. Allow blocking and there will be wreck after wreck after wreck. if you ever raced at all you would not want unlegislated blocking. The standard practice in most series is you are allowed one move left or right but then you hold your line. If the other guy was faster and makes the pass then take it like a man and try to repass him.

Cheever spent years in Europe in F1 and World Prototype cars and unlimited blocking was big

  • @knoxstar15 Did you actually READ my post? If you had, you would've noticed that I never mentioned the need for unregulated, unlimited blocking. I was refering to what Cheever did to Jarrett on the backstretch on the last lap. Cheever blocked the inside line and forced Jarrett to the middle of the track. Cheever stayed on the inside and Jarrett went past him. It was aggressive and clean, and the sort of racing I want to see in NASCAR.

  • What's with this whole "pass in the grass" thing? In 1987, Earnhardt didn't pass Elliot. Elliot was trying to pass Earnhardt, but Dale kept Elliot behind him. Here, Earnhardt didn't pass anybody. He lost places.

Anyway, Earnhardt is LEGEND. The most aggressive racer ever. I personally prefer Petty because Petty was the very definition of DOMINANCE, but Earnhardt was the very definition of GET THE HELL OUT OF MY WAY!!! :D Love em both.

  • @UltimateWheelman In the 1987 Winston Western 500 at Riverside, Earnhardt passed Bodine on the grass when Bodine got held up by a slower car.

  • @Asylum31 They should call THAT the "Pass in the Grass". :D

  • @UltimateWheelman No idea. Dale did things much more epic and crazy than that. Don't know why people focus on it so much.

  • That Is What I Call "The 2nd Pass In The Grass!!!!!"

  • Now just imagine if they made the entire Sprint Cup rooster use these cars... all equal omg it would be awsome

  • NOBODY but Earnhart could do that... NOBODY.... R I P MY MAN...per jhf

  • THAT is why dale earnhardt was the best ever

  • Man Jarrett looked BADASS on that last lap!!!!!

  • bob varsha, geoff bodine, and whos the other announcer?? scott sharp?

  • Sounds like Bob Jenkins, Goeff Bodine and Ricky Craven.

  • This is great car control 2x's. First he is forced down to the grass and maintains TOTAL control into the turn and thru, Second he basically PITS Cheevers and does it where cheevers is in no danger - REST IN PEACE.

You were one in tens of millions!

  • wish we had the end clip where cheever was afraid to get out of the car because dale was waiting for him! dale's great comment to him "don't worry, I never hit a man in a racecar!"

  • Damn you Cheever!

If Earnhardt wouldve won that Iroc race, it couldve changed history, and Earnhardt not be dead.

Hard to belive that when this was taken, Earnhardt would be dead in just a few days.

  • How would earnhardt not be dead if he won an iroc race that had nothing to do with the daytona 500?

  • If he won, then he wouldve done some stuff different, and the events leading up the the final lap might have been different.

If you do one thing, dont you ever wonder what wouldve happened if you did it the other way.

  • cheever is too pussy to realize that

    R.I.P. Dale Earnhardt

  • An awsome finish

  • get over yourself and the payback bull.....the save he made there is impossible at those speeds.

  • you're an idiot

  • i dont think it was out of line i meant dale sr did it a lot too so wats the diffnces

  • You dont keep hitting someone all the way down in the grass like that retard. Especially at Daytona at that rate of speed. Dale was agressive at short tracks. Cheever was jealous of Dale being able to see the air, he even admitted to that.

  • you're an idiot too

  • well it takes one to know one

  • Wow! It's hard to believe Dale Earnhardt would no longer be with us a few days after this race took place. What did IROC do after Dale Earnhardt died? Did they add another driver or did they race with one less car?

  • They ran only eleven cars for the other three races and retired the #3 when they decided to let drivers use the car numbers they're most associated with, so Helio Castroneves ran #03 in his future appearances, for instance.

  • Bring BACK IROC!

  • earnhardt would've won that race, i miss iroc you really saw who the best driver was unlike nascar where the guys with the best equipment win every race.

  • o my, Sharp and Geoff Bodine....bad analysts

  • this race was iroc's peak. was never the same without the best stock car driver ever.

  • Who were the other broadcasters with Bob Jenkins?

  • G.Bodine and Scott Sharp.

  • Did Tony Stewart do the same move in the Busch Race in 2005 that Earnhardt did in this IROC Race?

  • Yes

  • is was a busch race just forgot the year...amazing save

  • Yeah, 'cept Stewart had enough time to gather it back it up and win.

  • f*$@%n Cheever never raced fair sun of a b$%#!

  • Cheever sucks what is he thinkin pushin Earnhartd in the grass

  • Kind of like what Cheever did to Marco Andretti at the Glen in '06

  • That`s crazy as you can get !!

  • anyone have the post race interviews? loved when cheever looked at Dale with fear in his eyes, and Dale just smiled and said, "it's ok, i never hit a man sittin in a car" or something to that effect!

  • Why did they take iroc away?

  • Lack of sponsors.

  • Can't afford to build "NEW" IROC cars..

  • to bad they dont race IROC anymore

  • at least I dont think they do, I havent heard anything about IROC in like 2 years

  • they stil race it.

  • no they dont. they sold EVERYTHING...you may be thinking about the Race Of champions, in england

  • OK i use to think they did BUT you dont have to make me look stupid jack ass. i saw the news thing after i posted that.

  • i didnt try to make you look like a jackass. i just explained it. sorry

  • just something about those iroc engines! they just sound different than anyother race car out there! i love em!

  • who where the annoucers for this race??

  • One is Bob Jenkins. I don't know who the others are tho???????

  • Scott Sharp and Geoffrey Bodine.

  • Scott Sharp?!?!? He should go back to his day job and race openwheel, oh wait he isn't. He is in ALMS now. haha!!!!

  • I think Scott is a cool guy, but he wasn't exactly very good as an announcer, lol.

    "oh..Oh....WHOAA!!!!"

  • Yeah, he is a cool guy, he isn't that good at commentary. If he comes to NASCAR, (which he wouldn't) he would be more widely known and he'll get payied for what his talent is worth. Plus Scott is young and he can easily work his way up through the ranks and can make to the Cup series in no time. In NASCAR he'll race in front of full grandstands everyweek. In IRL/ALMS he will race in front of half to near empty grandstands.

  • sharp's from CT and i've ridden in one of bodine's bobsleds... ironic. lol

  • I remember seeing an interview with Cheever. He said that after the race, Earnhardt came over to him and he was a little scared to come out. However, Earnhardt was smiling and told him he looked forward to him bringing his best to the next race. Cheever was so sad to see him die... he cried in the interview.

  • Cheever is an ass. I miss IROC racing. This is good stuff 10-10 Perfect racin.

  • cheever alwayswas a bit erratic.

  • This is why I miss seeing Dale race. God I miss him so bad.

  • lol cheever gave him the win when he moved to block him.

  • only a real driver like Dale Earnhardt can control a car that was about to lose it. Funny how he end up spinning Cheever at the end of the race. You knew he wasn't gonna get away with that. Earnhardt is indeed a class act. Miss da man!

  • How bout Tony Stewart in 2005 in the busch race doing the same thing, and coming back to win!! i bet if that race had like 20 to go and a ytellow came out dale would have won

  • @RazorRC3 You mean a Real Wrecker

  • i was at that race

  • Eddie Cheever, the dirtiest driver ever to win the Indy 500.

  • Definitely wasn't the last time Cheever made a stupid move.

  • did earnhardts car have damage or did was it a paint scheme

  • i would lik to see a post race coverage of this race to see wat earnhardt had to say about eddie.

  • He actually shook his hand after the race. Weird.

  • Eddie went to Dale to apologize and Dale put his arm around Eddie saying "were alright man, were allright".

  • @freshgeek89 Cheever's greatest regret is not racing against Dale at the next IROC race at Talladega.

  • @freshgeek89 I was a Mark Martin fan from back in 1990, but damn, I miss Earnhardt! He had his own Code of Honor, which was hard to understand at times, but he held to it.

  • o i thought he would have being pissed.... but dale was a class act so tht was good. :)

  • sorry 7 cars

  • so only 5 cars finished

  • earnhardt was the greatest

  • wut an awesome move by jarrett.

  • This was just before the Daytona 500 race were Dale was killed in.

  • iroc cars were cooler lokking in the 90's
