I'm half way through Weapons of Mass Instruction right now, as I find this video. I'm starting to think that I'd like to do something experts wouldn't be able to approve of. Just not sure yet as to what it would be. Gatto is a thinker who dares to think about things of crucial importance, a hero of freedom and equal opportunity, I'd say.

@MosIonTaranul You may be joking, you may not be, but I think this proves Gatto's assertion that the young and the old need to connect with each other. Gatto has a lot of old fart moments where he slams TV and video games for making kids dumber, but the reality is these things only make dumb kids dumber. The reason they're dumb in the first place is institutionalized education. Our institutions take down the defensive walls in all but the strongest of our youth.

Gatto is a teacher in the truest sense of the word. He doesn't want to control children he wants children to be able to control themselves.

This mans system of education should be embraced right away, but we all know what would happen in 10 years if we raised a generation of critical thinking rational children at the public school level. They would revolt and change society for the better, and this is exactly what the "elites' don't want.

I just met him about an hour ago at a free state project meeting after hearing him talk. I told him I was a high school teacher and we discussed some things concerning education. One thing he said is that schools are too integrated into society to go away, that too many people have come to depend on them. I'd like to have schools work more for people than the other way around. I'd like for more of my peers to understand and reflect on his ideas. Some are well aware of the situation.
