why IS IT so hard to get benefits? why is it so complicated???? after serving mulitple tours in Iraq I went to CTC in Killeen Texas to find out how to use it. and the advisor wanted to talk about how to get more money NOT how I need to enroll in school.
I need more money for the cost of living, with the economy the way it is and the fact that I have to compete with the thousands of other college students in a college town for jobs I need more options on how to acquire funds.
I'm not sure why its taking forever for everyone else, but I applied 2 weeks before my school started and I received my first couple of checks within a week or 2 after I started!
I served my country in Vietnam and suffer with a multitude of medical problems / 7 screws 5 rods and 2 connectors in my back and suffer severe Chronic Pain 24/7 to where cannabis could help but they "VA" say the only thing they can give me for my suffering of 43 years is Morphine!!! Which is worst, Smoking Some Pot Every Day? Or being stoned unconscious by morphine?
too bad that all the payments are messed up. So many Veterans including myself are having to move out, or are being evicted because no payment of rent, that we have not received from VA and it has been almost 6 months!
@J0erican Sorry to hear about the bulls*** you're having to put up with. Have you received your money yet and if so is the VA working properly now? Also, what legal excuse/loophole was used to allow them to withhold your rightful money? Any information would be greatly appreciated and would help others as well. Thanks so much again.
Is anyone getting paid. All I hear is people expecting to get paid or people who have submitted paperwork months ago (as long ago as Sep) and haven't received a thing. The VA had shut their phones off for quite a while and wouldn't even answer calls. If you've received your housing stipend please respond.
I was worried for a second. One GI Bill website said that the post 9/11 GI bill in Minnesota would pay around 300 per credit hour and another said it would pay up to 700 per credit hour. This video cleared that up, thanks!
The best part about this program is waiting for the benefits, then having that wait extended and having to help out your friends that weren't lucky enough to get a job. Colleges want their money. Too bad it's arriving late.
So far, the bill is a joke. I applied to switch over because I got out on a disability (which qualifies me for 100%). Supposedly it was available in May, but I couldnt apply at school until June. Well, school already started and I still haven't seen a dime. Still waiting on my COE. They had so much time to work this out, they disregarded the fact that servicemen may need the money the semester following. Now if we dont have money for books, we will fail and have to pay back that semester.
So as far as I know, this is a joke. I've been trying to use my chapter 30 GIbill since May. Didn't see a dime. They send me a notice saying I can use the Post 9/11 bill starting August 1st. Now they have let me down yet again, when I call the VA office this guy tells me I'll have to wait untill September to see even a dime of this money, so now I'm getting kicked out of school. They don't answer my emails, it takes over a half an hour to talk to a real person at the VA. I'm mad as hell.
Rip-off - I was in Iraq- day one, 3 years in the Persian gulf, was honorably (medically) discharged. I started college that same week. I got my B.A. with $17,000 in loans from a State school in FL and maxed out my Montgomery G. I. Bill.
The POST 9-11 G.I. Bill would have covered my debt, wouldn't have to work full-time while in school. I ask the V.A. if there is anything I can get from it - Nothing
Thanks V.A. - I should of stayed on the couch for a few years while you got your act together a
And, stupids, Put the URL link to the info you are quoting from. People Don't want to hear you talk about it and not have a direction to go. Who does your Channel planning? Grow a brain. Doesn't take much to paste links to the "frequently asked questions" and "Post-911 gibill" Info page.
Oh, and this is Youtube, Not television. get rid of the "Professional" type editing and hired actors. Get a real service member in here talking about it. *Blah*
How about focusing on the part where retirees can't transfer their remaining benefits to their dependents? So if you served for just three years after 9-11 and are still active duty, you can use 100% tuition assistance for your own education needs and transfer your GI Bill benefit to your spouse and children, as long as you remain on active duty...but if you served 20+ years and still have remaining benefit, you can't transfer it to your dependents. Makes sense to us...
Great bill if you retired on or after 8/1/2009. Otherwise, your family and your pocket book become big time losers. My husband served 26 yrs, served in 4 campaigns and retired June 1st. Thanks VA and DOD!
Does anyone know if there is a total limit to this benefit. Other than just the limit per semester hour and limit for fees. If you use this bill to pay for tuition, fees, and housing is there a total limit where the VA will stop paying if you still have school to finish for your degree.
When it came to benefits and fee's, they didnt mention that ACTIVE DUTY personnel do not have to worry about this. The VA covers it all, but we dont get the BAH, or the book stipened, or the tutor money. I think they need to give ACTIVE DUTY the book stipened and the tutor money! I know I sure could use it!
This is misleading in some instances. Many schools (mine included) will still require veterans to pay tuition and fees up front and will reimburse the veterans after receiving payment from the VA. This is due to the VA's requirement that if a veteran has an overpayment from another institution before transferring to your school, the school will not be paid until the veteran's benefits have repaid the overpayment in full! It also fails to inform Ch30 veterans of potential loss of 12 extra mos.
Nice video, and I feels soooo sorry for all veterans who served after 9/11 and did not get a chance for the Post 9/11 Bill. I have used up 2 years of my G.I. Bill, and is that statement true that "if I wait 1 year to tranfer to the post 9/11 I will get an extra year?"

What, exactly, does active service mean? Because I enlisted and am waiting to go to basic but my M.O.S. might not involve going into combat?
