  • Yes, the paper clip will move. An ignition coil is made like a solenoid coil. Ignition coils have several long, flat laminated steel strips which form the coil's core. Since the ends of the core are open, the magnetic field easily escapes and loops around to each end. If you could see the magnetic field it would appear much like magnetic filings do around a bar magnet. A transformer has a closed magnetic loop. Paper clips are simply steel wire. Do the experiment with copper and it won't move.

  • :20 sec.... hehe

  • @idusclothing haha shhh i was little :)

  • cool

  • nice video guy.

    thom.

  • wtf???

  • What's up with Aussies always doing these cool electronics videos, I didn't know we had so many electronic fanatics around.

  • haha same

  • maybe a dumb question,

    what is a mot?

  • lol. a mot is a microwave oven transformer:)

  • i could have known.

    XD

so you hook secundair or primaire to 230V?

  • primaire

  • ok i forgot.

in a transfomer the primaire has most windings or the secundair?

    (i think secundair)

  • yep thats right, the secundair

  • Try a .1uF HV cap over the contacts in the relay - Ive had those things popping sparks right out of the hole to the terminals see tesladownunder's site

  • thanks ill give it a try:)

that site is mad its got everything!

  • i have a video now of your idea but without a relay so check it out!

  • What does a relay do, is it a curcuit breaker?

  • its just an electro-magnetic switch,

its an electro-magnet that pulls a to peices of matal together to open and close a circut:) if that makes sence?lol

  • is your relay in self osscilation mode
