I appreciate this! There is so much around us from our past to connect us with who we are today. Traditions like these keep us faithful to our humanity. God bless!
Well, well, well... :-) I noticed that this video started out with, "Well, first of all..." I really enjoy learning about things like this, guess that's why I subscribe to your videos. Always interesting. Thank you, Peter. :-)
This is a beautiful tradition. Hopefully your video will inspire others to research their area's history to revive more of those charming traditions. Wouldn't it be great if some were inspired to start some new traditions.
what a lovely tradition! it was sad for me when I realized that now I hardly know anybody in my town.. We would do with a tradition like this Peter! XXX
I live in Nottinghamshire and have never heard of this tradition... Is it just a Derbyshire thing? Gutted it doesn't happen round here, it looks rather awesome
Beautiful! I really wish I lived in England so I could experience a tradition like this- here in Australia we don't have much like that, so I thank you for sharing it with me! I love seeing first hand perspectives of a life lived in such an amazing place and time.. Your videos are awesome, thanks so much :)
Aww what a cool tradition..! I would like to decorate one... I think more things like this should be done... something really fun and gathers people together.
Very interesting. I'm fascinated by all these strange local customs, but I've never seen or heard anything about this one before. You've inspired me to find out more about this quaint tradition and its history.
When I was in Yorkshire a few years ago - near some ruined Abbey as I recall - I kept finding old logs with coins embedded in them. They were completely covered with these coins. Does anyone know what the story behind that? Is it some ancient Yorkshire tradition or some art project or just a local craze?
Wow, that's a nice tradition, and fascinating to think of the amount of creativity and work that goes into those boards! The aspect that young and old work togehter to create these things is a very sweet one, too. Thak you for sharing this :-)!
Those panels look exquisite, especially considering they are made up of flower petals.
Here in Jersey, we have what is called 'The Battle of Flowers' which is held every August and basically all of the parishes on the island decorate floats (some of which are sometime spectacular) and then a big show is put on to celebrate. Your video reminded me of it!
What do they do then with them? Put them against the wells or over them or what? When you started the video I was imagining people perhaps painting the stones the wells were made out of but the further you went the less I was able to picture how this is applied to a well. Google Ho! :)
I think we'll find more of these kind of traditions coming back; they always seem to make the rounds :) Just look at canal boats

@ProducerStuartBrown No idea, I'm from Yorkshire and have never heard of it, suspect it was an art project of some sort?

Sounds like the Rose parade in Pasadena California, which all the floats have to be made of organic products, like flowers.
