  • first pedal video i ever saw. and so it began...

  • You know...this is actually one of the VERY BEST gear videos I´ve come across on Youtube, ever. Why? Because gearmandude knows that you have to show not only the pedal you´re working with but also the axe, the amp, their settings, etc. Thumbs up, gearmandude. THIS is how it is done. More, please.

  • I can't find too many schematics for a BMP Tone Wicker pedal, so does anyone know if there's some circuit goo between the switches and such that cause a loss of the "original" muff sound? It just doesn't sound like a plain old NY Big Muff that I've played a lot on. Maybe a little bit of capacitance and such stuck in the signal?

  • whoa, that guy talks just like jack black. but! the big muff and the "little" big muff are exactly the same and go for the same price. there was no difference.

if your into big muffs check out the big muff with wicker, soo nice.

  • @thefoxmartindale Little Big Muff is actually about 10 bucks cheaper.

  • haha... muff

  • i like the muff drive actually. sounds pretty sweet. not as thick and smooth as the other two, but more crunchy.

  • nice solo i like the lil muff

  • "buttery lead stuff" nice xD

  • who says you need to buy a new pair of shoes?

    i says.

  • is that a fuzz pedal or an overdrive pedal......

  • sounds like white stripes

  • @ThomasBCullen yeah, The White Stripes sure use a lot of fuzz and whammy . Especially on their last album.

  • @ThomasBCullen jack white uses a digitech whammy, ehx pog and a big muff.

  • is this good for palm mutting?

  • @kisay69 i have the middle one and it doesn't sound the best when palm muting

  • De nada.

  • Little big muff hands down. Nano is pointless and big muff is ridiculus.

  • @austinbondify

I really like the nano for driving a tube amp and getting great fuzz though.

  • Omg it's Eric Whorton!

  • gotta love a muff comparison!!!

  • Hahahaha. "We're going to do some muff comparisons today".

  • in the words of AC/DC we roll tonight till the guitar bites, and for those about to rock i salute u...

  • Maybe gonna buy the "Little big muff"

  • its not jack black... is Steve'O from jackass !!

  • @krazhy Not even close.

  • @timbo177 I know i just want to get someone's attention haha

  • well if gearmanndude is Jack Black then i'm pretty sure guitarmusecom is Will Ferrell, check out his neo mistress review.

  • black jack

  • i have an idea for a fuzz pedal....the look of it anyways...and the name...ok the name ....you ready??......"The Fuzz" and have it the same color as a police car....and when you turn it on instead of having a boring red light you have police lights goin off....and if anyone wants this idea i have it patented and will sell

  • @TheFunnyzach lol...yeah....but gimme a break i was high :)

  • @ihaveaverybadcold everyone gets high =-)

  • @ihaveaverybadcold Dude, that would be badass. I would buy it just for looks

  • I have a little nano, it sux ass. Might use the casing for a DIY. or maybe there's a mod but it would need to be a good one.

  • Nice Boots Dude!

  • Some of my favorite solo work of yours on here Mr. Mandude!

  • I just jizzed my pants between 3:43 and 3:51

  • nothing beats the original big muff, BTW is GMD like a millionaire or something?

  • Thanks man, I've been wondering if these sounded the same or not and you just answered my question!!! :-)

  • MUFF family?:)

  • the boss fz5 is the same???

  • man you sound like Jack Black!

  • id get the big one...just to have a bigass pedal

  • MuffDiver eh eh eh ... you got the blues and nice shoes...

  • sweet boots.

  • big muff!!

  • Anyone else just like to pretend that this is jack black?

  • @eliteslayer66

    wait. it isnt?

  • @eliteslayer66 It is Jack Black.

  • @WorldsJungleGym I wish it was.

  • @eliteslayer66

I once broke my hand. In the hospital the guy who put my hand back together had the voice of the doctor from the TV show M.A.S.H. to this day I remember the uncanny match.

  • @eliteslayer66 YESS, YESS i do

  • @eliteslayer66 hahaha yeah, really sound like JB

  • what guitar what amp do you have???????

  • @weekendchannel2 Gibson SG, Doctor Z amp and an awesome Owl strap!

  • Little Big Muff wins easily of course. Harder, better, stronger-smaller-sturdier-pedalboard-friendlier.

  • The tone. So much sex.

  • cool shoes bro!

  • I don't think many people have said this, but you sound like Jack Black :D

  • nice guitar play my friend

  • I love comparing muffs...

  • whats the difference between the BIG MUFF AND THE LITTLE BIG MUFF ?

  • @TheMusicDude1997 The size and a little bit of the sound. The Big Muff is a little more "strong". But it's almost insignificant.

  • @TheMusicDude1997 just the size, if you believe what EHX says.

  • i like the muff....

  • Can the nano muff overdrive be used as a boost for solo's ( like a tubescreamer)? or will a lpb-1 serve me better?

  • @MrSkAtEfReAk12 go for the lpb-1. it's entire purpose is to boost! plus it's a bit cheaper, can't beat that! but the best thing to do actually would be to try out both pedals yourself and decide then.

  • @RLYHYPERGUY True, true. On the other hand, I want a boost that adds a bit of gain and sustain, so that's why I might be looking for an overdrive rather than 'just' a boost. I propably will just test them, but since I don't really have a good shop near me, it'll take som time!

  • @MrSkAtEfReAk12 If you're looking for a gain and sustain boost then another good choice would be the Boss SD-1. The most important thing though is that you try all of them out. It will take time and patience since you don't have a good shop near you but it'll be worth it!

  • Great pedal(s)! Excellent shoot-out, GMD. Do you OWN all of those guitars? (envy)

  • Does it help anyone else to just assume that gearmandude is Jack Black? I'm sure he isn't, but it gives him credibility for some reason...

  • Thanks for the side by side. I've been considering the little big muff so this was helpful.

  • Big Muff is the best.

    P.S. I have it

  • muff comparisons.... hahaha

  • " . . .cleaner than the muff."

My inner sixth grade self is laughing his ass of right now.

  • Why would jack black do videos about fuzz pedals on youtube?

  • MW FUZZYTONE, probably the cheapest yet most versatile boutique fuzz pedal in the U.K

GET THAT HENDRIX / MAYER / SRV TONE

    SEARCH FOR FUZZYTONE ON YOUTUBE

  • what is the difference between big muff and little big muff besides the size?

  • @bumsex4me the little is between the current and a russian muff in terms of tone. each one has a slightly different sound, my favorite is the ramhead for the tight low end and smooth distortion

  • @bumsex4me he did another demo of them all but instead of the muff overdrive he had the muff with tone wicker, its a much better comparison cos the camera is a lot clearer as is the sound. and to answer your question (based on the other video) i think the original big muff actually sounded BIGGER than the others, hope that helped.

  • we know it's you Jack Black!!

  • you are born to play muff's !!!

  • guys stop complaining about the big muff being so big!!! why do u think its called the BIG muff??

  • Damn, the difference between the big muff pi and little big muff are subtle, but you can definitely hear that the big muff pi has got more meat to it.

But its so freking big! Thats half your freking pedalboard right there haha

  • this cant be jack black he plays guitar way to well ....jack ...succkkkkkkkkkkkkssssssssssss! lol

  • what do you think of the deluxe big muff?

  • i have a little big muff havnt really had a chance to mess about with it yet but i'm looking forward to it

  • I like my big muff pi, but it doesn't sound like this. It sounds a bit more fake(if that makes since).

  • @teamhex when you have the muff off, is your guitar sound clean or a little dirty??? to get that mean thick tone, you have to have the guitar a little bit dirty with the pedal...

  • @cobracarg Its always been clean. I just started experimenting with over driving my Deville when using effects with it. I found some that sound insanely awesome. I bet thats what it was. Ill have to try that next jam session

  • I go now and look for some videos on youtobe from concerts of Jack Black and look if Jack Black has such Shoes.

  • He is Jack Black, fuck me if i'm wrong.

  • i bought an original 70's BM-PI for 15 bucks in 1986 not a big deal then money wise same pedal would fetch 7oo bucks if some retard would pay that -not me the new ones are the same damn pedal i love the crushing gain these get just nasty ass fuzz/distortions daddy-o's

  • The Little Big Muff Is the same as the original but It's in a smaller box, and the components are smaller in the Little Big Muff. I don't think this affects a lot though.

  • 2.56 Cool. Definatly sounds like Jack Black. Thx for these informative vids. Pretty neat.

  • im pretty sure i heard that unlike the big muff the little guy is true bypass. GMD, does this make a big difference?

  • haha I prefer the little big muff. Considering its probably the least used pedal on my board and its probably like 3/4 smaller than the Big Muff.

The Big Muff has a fatter sound to it though.

  • The Big Muff Pi is like a kick in the nuts, just hits you.

  • Hi all....can i get a similar sound like dinosaur jr with little big muff??? THX ALL

  • @CZgrungeCZ yes you can it's really the same pedal but factor in their amp/guitar set-up as well -good luck

  • Cool shoes bro.

  • i have the Muff ( Nano series ) It's not bad, it does the job. It was only like 50$

  • super cool...such a great recording too. I guess I shouldn't have sold my big muff for $40 20 years ago. ah well..

  • voxx super fuzz is the best tho

  • little big muff for me.

  • you sound like ben from billy talent ^^

  • No man he sounds like Jack Black =D

  • thanks a bunch for posting this, it's sometimes better to hear it this way than in a guitar shop with the guy looking over your shoulder

read your username as germannude first time though!

  • should have done nano muff pi instead of muff overdrive.

  • @brooklynstudio What is muff? is it just a fuzz, or a distortion, or a overdrive, or something diff?

  • well electro harmonix like to say is a distortion with alot of sustain, but it is safe to call it a fuzz pedal. they call it a distortion/sustainer.

  • it's just what they called the pedal

    make - Electro Harmonix

pedal - Bigg Muff PI (the original I believe Hendrix loved it, Little Big Muff ect.

    The pedals are Fuzz

  • mmm... the little big muff reminds me of my sovtek big muff pi... i own as well a nano muff and is SUCH a bizarre overdrive, i set it at 9 o clock and it sounds really strange, as a gated fuzz-overdrive really dirty and unpredictable... love it before a wah

  • what the hell? was that a BLACK coily cord?

  • What is the substain knob on with the big muff pi?

  • all the way

  • Gearmanndude, let me clear up your confusion with the Muff. The MUFF was made before the BIG MUFF and is a different pedal, that's why it sounds nothing like a BIG MUFF.

  • @SpeakToMe73 no it wasnt.

  • This guy is Eric Whorton

  • i like your shoes

  • That's neat.

  • big muff is the best pedal EVER

  • @cobracarg Damn sure!

  • Thanks it's good to hear these when considering a purchase !

  • what are you gay?

  • he woudnt have to be gay to like children.

    rite?

  • depends

  • hey man why u always using coil cable ???

i saw all your video... is that a better than the straight one ??? thanks.. btw your video review is awesome !! :)

  • is this jack black???xD xD

  • yes.

  • Wow bro you really know how to proof a pedal! thank you man

  • Wow bro! you really know how to proof a pedal! thank you man

  • great big muff!!I want double muff

  • holy guacamolliiiiiii man that is one sweeet set up u got there.... and a wall full of beaties . Very nice comparison, helped me a lot in choosing which of the three to buy so thanks a bunch man.

  • That's the way I want my rock'n roll

  • Jack Black

  • Great job man!!! keep on rocking!!!(that prety much goes for everyone)

  • sounds awesome but i got the boss ds-2 for christmas last year an i also have the ds-1 and when i switch them on at once they also have an awesome distorted not to say fuzzy tone so i think i dont need another fuzz pedal but its awesome

  • the original sounds fantastic, but why does it have to be the size of a fucking VCR?

  • so then everyone can see it and they know exactly what you're using! haha

  • go big or go home

    i only do big things

    Exept childeren lol

  • @yearonebillion Put a pedal ON the Big Muff! Like people do with other EHX pedals. Fit a nice MXR Boost on it, or a chorus.

  • @yearonebillion So you can beat someone with it.

  • @yearonebillion cause it's the fuckin BIG MUFF!!!!!! xD

  • @yearonebillion Because it wouldn't be called the Big Muff if it weren't big.

  • @yearonebillion That's retro for you!

  • @yearonebillion because small pedals are for wimps.

  • @yearonebillion because its a BIIIIG muff XD this isnt your average everyday muff.... oh no... its a BIG one. :D

  • @yearonebillion well what do you not get? its the BIG muff. not the LITTLE muff. not the NORMAL muff. the BIG muff.

  • @yearonebillion thats the greatness of it eh

  • @yearonebillion I have no idea. and I have one, i opened i up, and the little board in it could fir in a case smaller than the little big muff.

  • @maydecember513 well...its called the big muff. It wouldnt be big if it wasn't big, right?

  • @sinodira2 the casing itself is huge, but whats inside isnt. lol.

i want to pickup the tone wicker one because of the option for more sustain and the smaller size.

  • It's popa chupi !!!

  • the little big muff is fantastic

  • I've tried out all 4 muffs (tone wicker, little big muff, big big muff, and double muff) and the regular big muff and the one with the tone wicker were the best. There's actually a pretty big difference between the little one and the big one.

I bought the regular one, but I wish I bought the tone wicker. The regular big muff disappears when I play with my band. You can hardly even hear it.

The tone wicker gives about the same fuzz tones but it can cut through also.

  • shit is that jack black

  • i think so

  • well spotted :P

  • I prefer the Double Muff

Half overdrive, Half fuzz. thats true

  • which would you suggest is the best fuzz, a big muff PI, one of the dunlop fuzz faces or an Octavio?

  • If you had to choose one, I like the Little Big Muff Better. It's supposed to be exactly the same as the Big Muff in a smaller package, but the little BMfs do sound somewhat sweeter, both here and in real life.

  • You could add the double muff. i really like it, and NO it is not a double big muff, YES it is a double muff overdrive. Half overdrive, Half fuzz.

thanks gearmanndude for the work, impressive as always.

  • i guess its that big muff that sounds fuckin sick. i love that tone

  • NIce one, its the Big Muff for me, gotta say the LBM wasn'r far behind , a touch more foreward.

  • I agree.

  • Alright, after watching 2 of gearmanndude's videos I'm finally convinced that is Jack Black. Would explain how he afforded all that equipment.

  • @NotoriousElderly0 But he doesn't sound like Jack Black at all...

  • @NotoriousElderly0

and forget about the shoes too :D

  • @NotoriousElderly0 jack black plays acoustic and GMD plays better anyway

  • che sgancio!!

  • I don't get it...How come when he plays on the muffs they sound so smooth and not grainy and perfect, but whenever anyone else on youtube does it, it sounds like crap?

Right here, it sounds like a pedal I really want, but when I check other demos it's too grainy and so fuzzy to a point where it sounds bad.

Can anyone with a big muff tell me, if in person the big muff sounds closer to this, or say, proguitarshops demo, where it sounds like a bad fuzzy mess.

  • the muffs sound like this through a good amp with a good guitar... i've owned the little muff, the USA and Russian Big Muffs.. the other vids ur referring too are a lot of ppl playing through subpar amps... i own a fender bassman 59, american strat with texas special pups, gibson flying v, and a fender jagstang and this is the tone u get... u won't get this sound with a cheap guitar/cheap amp.. hope this helps

  • Sounds like I need a new amp XD

  • Don't forget good cables! But I agree. Big Muffs are particularly picky about amps. I currently only have a crappy spider III until I get a Blues Junior NOS :(...B=but surprisingly my russian muff sounds great through it...I don't have any idea why lol

  • Spider III's really arent that bad for home amps, gigs, not so much.
