It seems that much of "thyroid sluggishness" is due to inflammation induced cell damage. This inflammation appears to be an immune system response to overgrowth of Candida yeast. Extreme cases present as Grave's or Hashimoto's autoimmune thyroiditis. Both Graves and Hashimoto's respond to an anti Candida regimen and are indistinguishable under the microscope. The lauric acid in coconut oil kills Candida yeast and likely this then allows recovery of normal thyroid cell function.
Since moving to Kauai, I say a coconut a day keeps the doctor away! I was always in the sun, whether it was working the Farmers Markets or swimming in the ocean everyday, (I lived on the beach for a year and a half). I started using extra virgin coconut oil on my hair and body. As a makeup remover, there is non better.. No more spending $35 for chemicals! It is very healing to the skin (I'm proof) and works great as a spread on your morning toast! Spread the word, "Coconut"!
After researching VCO and talking to people I know that use it regularly - I am giving it a try... Being and American Filipino, we haven't used it much But I am convinced it has very beneficial properties... I use it on my skin and hair and it's amazing. My girlfriend is from Vietnam and swears by VCO - both, topically and ingested. She is a twig.... I am giving it a try Thanks for posting these videos..
I am aFfilipino. I have family that have eaten coconut oil for decades and they are not over weight. I am and I don't eat it, yet... :) I understand and hear your concerns about obese peoples of the South Pacific. If you look at their overall diet, they consume mostly pork as protein. Spam in Hawaii is a staple. If you look at Tahiti, Bora, Bora, Thailand, and others, coconut oils is consumed in higher amounts - pork & beef less... look at the overall diet and "staples" of each then decide.
Have you ever seen the average weight of an islander (hawaiin, somoan, etc)? And you want me to believe cocconut is healthy with all tha fat and cholesterol? Islanders all day early of atherscleosis....cocconut oil ain't helping them at all.
The native people who CANNOT AFFORD TO EAT MASSIVE QUANTITIES OF PROCESSED FOOD are the healthy ones. These healthy beautiful people are eating minimally processed coconut oil as part of a traditional food plan that was passed down to them from previous generations.
@DrJDFondren You are correct about the diseased obese people of the South Pacific.
Statistically Hawaiians are at the highest risk for: hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. The present day unhealthy food choices of these and other westernized native people DOSE NOT INCLUDE COCONUT OIL! They are diseased and over weight because of over consumption of the WORST products of our industrialized western culture.
@DrJDFondren, I hear the Hawaiin's have been eating a lot of canned 'SPAM' over the years. I'd say, that alone, would have much to do with the over weight problems there.
I have been taking coconut oil for one month. Main effect is that rooms now feel too warm. Needed to reset home thermostat from 70 down to 66 F...also don't need jacket when I ride my bike. Ergo main effects experienced thus far is 1. a large increase in my BMR (basal metabolic rate), 2. Increased energy level and 3. reduced appetite.
I have been taking coconut oil 3x a day for ONE week and yesterday I was sweating during my normal work out!!! I have been cold all day for about 15 years, and I am warm for the first time!! ONE WEEK!! I cannot cannot cannot believe I have not done this years ago, my diet is nearly flawless, and finally I got my thyroid working! THANK YOU!!
Have added Coconut Oil sporadically in the past 6-8 weeks. Had thyroid panel drawn last week and doc cut my dosage. Weight was also down 10 #'s, although I don't feel that in my clothing as yet. I'll increase my intake and try to be more regular and see what happens.

I was wondering what this does for a person with hyperthyroid. Is it regulating or more stimulating for an under active thyroid?
