"You're making me feel like I've never been born."
I believe these were Georges words to Peter Fonda in LA. Fonda was freaking George out while all were high on acid. George just wanted Fonda to go away.
@paulgad Yeah, I was running off memory from long ago (a bad thing to do). Wiki more or less is what I remember. He was frightening George and annoying John who was trying to get away from him. It was JOHN that said: "You're making me feel like I've never been born." and not George (I had that wrong).
Part of when they were making the song: "It was a thoroughly tripped-out atmosphere because they kept finding girls hiding under tables and so forth: one snuck into the poolroom through a window while an acid-fired Ringo was shooting pool with the wrong end of the cue. "Wrong end?" he’d say. "So what fuckin’ difference does it make?"
Ringo the great!! How can sounds like that! For me, the best song about the drums....well, the entire song is too fucking good!!!!! I love it!!!! all the time!!!
thank god that current bands like the black keys cover these old songs, because i really like the beatles, but i would have never have found this if they didn't cover it. it brings new generations to old songs.
@hollaback61694 indeed man, the last shadow puppets got me into the beatles with their cover of i want you (shes so heavy) i have parents with bad music (y)
Do you know that this song was inspired on one of the Beatle´s friend, Peter Fonda, who accidentally shot himself in the stomach when he was a boy and his driver tried to help him by taking him to the hospital but the nurses ignored the driver because he was black - Fonda thinks of him as an angel. When in surgery, he died for minutes and finally revived - his heart had stopped 3 X. Later, he was taking an LSD with the Beatles where he told J.Lennon ¨I know what is like to be dead¨ - peaceful.
I wanted to download a song called "she said" by some other band i dont remember who. When i downloaded it, it was this song. At first disappointed. I kept on listening to this song, such an awesome song. i want to cover and record a version of this song
@JulesAndVincent54 this, song for song, may very well be the best proof that pop music merits fall in compose a melody with a catchy refrain and arrange it with what you prefer (riffs, clasical music arrangments, avantgarde, etc..)
the composition of a rock song is far more complex and original. dont confuse rock with pop please.
anyway i like this song, not a masterpiece, but yes a good one.
Great song and album cover. I think "Revolver" was one of their best albums apart from 'A Hard Days Night" and "Abbey Road". I think it's been much underrated and I like it more than 'Sgt Pepper" (which is ok).
@ProducShuns true. others have been forgotten as well. for example,do you like Huey Lewis and The News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically.
I wish they'd had another producer. The songs are great, but the recordings are shit. What's with the tinny poor levels on the drums? That's some seriously amateur mixing.
@Polyfusia - It was George Martin, who gave them the freedom to use the Abbey Road studio at their will initially, He was the guy who played the keys on "In my life", he is the guy who plays the mystery intro chord in the beginning of "A hard day's night" along with George Harrison. Go and read "All you need is ears" by Martin, and then blurt out ur opinion.
@Polyfusia Listen to the mono mixes. Those were the mixes The Beatles and George Martin spent their time on. The stereo mixes were rushed afterthoughts required by the record label to market the new technology.
You're right, not until The White Album did The Beatles start churning out good stereo mixes. I agree, before that the stereo mixes were indeed amateur, but so was everyone's. George Martin, Geoff Emerick and John Lennon were the most vocal about the mono mixes being heard.
@buffenbison Pretty amazing, isn't it? Can you imagine people listening to the garbage today 45 years down the road? haha not a chance in hell. Classic Rock forty-five years from now will still be the Beatles, Zeppelin, Stones, etc.
@buffenbison And it is still fresh and good as I first heard as a little boy in 1972...Most popular music iover last 45 years influenced by the Beatles : Listen, one example, Death Cab w/ Beatles in mind
I've always felt that the artist who did the cover of Revolver should have tried to do George a little better. He was probably drawn last, though, and they probably just said, "Aww, fuck it."
huh, what i heard was that they were at someone's pool, and George was on acid thinking, "i'm gonna die" and a friend told him about accidentally shooting himself and dying three times, so he knew what it was like to be dead. where John replied, "who put all that shit in your head?"
@FireFan92 Of the large faces, Paul McCartney is the top left, John Lennon is the top right, George Harrison is the lower right, and Ringo Starr is the lower left. The smaller pictures are all pictures of the Beatles, I believe... it's kind of hard to describe who is who without being able to point to them, but if you get a sense of what they look like in other pictures I bet you can figure it out.
Oh thank God...At least others don't dis me for saying this song is about tripping because the first hour of an LSD trip you experience death...you actually die.. and are reborn into a dayglow earth that you are ready to explore and attach yourself to...wash rinse repeat. On the other side...if you're lucky, you have cosmic consciousness, but words are limitations here....
@lateforthesky61 haha Why would we diss you? The Beatles loved psychedelics. This was based on an experience their friend Peter Fonda had with ego death on acid.
Psychonauts should definitely recognize this song as being about ego death. And it's a psychedelic rock song after all.
Check out "Tomorrow Never Knows" as well. Very influenced by acid.
when lennon says she said i know what its like to be dead, what he means is that too many people do not know what it is to live and the beatles still being in their rebellious stage in their teens and 20s especially in the 60s they were living the fast live which was influenced by physcadelics which made them realize thart live should be lived to the fullest
@goodguyj you sure it's not just that he or someone he knew had a subjective experience on LSD that he chose to describe as "knowing what it's like to be dead"? the song is supposedly an acid trip song, after all.
This song was inspired by what Peter Fonda had said while on LSD.John had been to a party with Peter and he heard him say "I know what what it's like to be dead."
Guitar work on Revolver is fantastic. "She Said She Said " was written by Lennon with some help from Harrison.:D The guitars are even heavier than the Jefferson Airplane at that time, and Hendrix hadn't become a star yet. AWESOME!!!!
Ringo was a pioneer, yeah listen to "She Said She Said" if that is not unique I do not know what is.
@gdosic iI agree 100% I have always loved the guitar playing on Revolver. It's nice to see intelligent comments about the Beatles music rather some bullshit about being 12 and Justin Bieber.
This album is so much heavier then their previous, some nice crunchy guitar distortion here, a signpost to the hard rock/metal that would come just a few years later.
Straordinari.
k, so my eldest brother bought this waaaay back in like 1970, I was 5, and I saw the album cover and thought, "Yay! A colouring page!" Went Crayola all over it. I don't think he's ever really forgiven me. But fyi, John looks awesome with lavender skin!
@mikopitou100 - That's a GREAT comment, my friend! And...a cool concept!!
I'm 45, and, when "Revolver" came out in 1966, I was seven-months-old! After that, I never thought to color my Mom's little sister's copy of this album cover while enjoying it; so, it's probably good that you and I weren't friends at that time!? Or, is it!?
Maybe this album was colorless so Baby-Boomers "WOULD" color it, and, owners would go out and buy another copy!? GOOD CONCEPT, GREAT ALBUM, and, GOOD IDEA! :)
“ I finally made my way past the kids and the guards. Paul and George were on the back patio, and the helicopters were patrolling overhead. They were sitting at a table under an umbrella in a rather comical attempt at privacy. Soon afterwards we dropped acid and began tripping for what would prove to be all night and most of the next day.
Nessuno come i Beatles.
This is my favorite Beatles song off of Revolver. This is one of two songs on this album that John Lennon wrote that had to do with his use of drugs at that time.
To learn how to hear the hidden messages in Beatles songs, search 'Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read through the section about The Beatles.Thumbs up this comment, help it spread around to others who love The Beatles.
I love 60's music yeah, but personally I loved growing up in the 90's and 00's.. because you can listen to ALL genres, you don't have to wait for them to be made.
@SHEMEANzEVRyTHANG2ME I spent the entire summer of '81 on LSD. I'm totally clean now for almost 20 years. I'm not hyper about people doing other drugs. LSD is not a recreational drug, it's drug research, like astronauts research lunar effects. You'll create a useless astronomical detachment, and it lasts for more hours than you care to examine the intense fabric design on your jeans. It's seriously upsetting, my mom had recently died and I was 18, I had no attachment to lose.
@SHEMEANzEVRyTHANG2ME Using LSD isn't necessary. You can alter your mind and expand your consciousness naturally. I did LSD a couple or three times. Now I meditate. That's also what George did. Meditation!
@SHEMEANzEVRyTHANG2ME well don't go crazy. Learn a thing or two before you explore the desert. Imagination Desert welcomes the knowledgable and shakes the fools. Neurosoup knows a thing or two. Like Jefferson Airplane said, "Feed you head for you gonna chase rabbits".
Make sure you're in the woods or in a natural settting with someone you totally trust as a good friend.
200 mcg is the max. OR do something lighter like mescaline. Psilocybin mushrooms or peyote are equally powerful, but understand you may have a bad experience if you have any issues with depression or anxiety or are taking medication for same. Not to be your parent, but start with marijuana... the stronger psychedelics I would say are risky and not to be taken lightly.
early psychedelia by far.

@BronYAurStomp11 Only Beatles song without McCartney playing on it! Did they get a session guy in to do the bass, or did John/George play it?

Oh man, probably my favorite Beatles song/album.
Who else avoided the Beatles for a long time, and then when you finally came around to listening to them, you absolutely loved their music?

The Black Keys did one sexy cover of this song. It kicks ass. Go see.

Ringo Starr, the most underrated drummer EVER!! :D
daracenak 3 months ago
Nessuno come i Beatles.

This is my favorite Beatles song off of Revolver. This is one of two songs on this album that John Lennon wrote that had to do with his use of drugs at that time.
R.I.P. JOHN & GEORGE

It's seriously upsetting, my mom had recently died and I was 18, I had no attachment to lose.
drasticwillb 3 months ago
@SHEMEANzEVRyTHANG2ME Using LSD isn't necessary. You can alter your mind and expand your consciousness naturally. I did LSD a couple or three times. Now I meditate. That's also what George did. Meditation!

@SHEMEANzEVRyTHANG2ME well don't go crazy. Learn a thing or two before you explore the desert. Imagination Desert welcomes the knowledgable and shakes the fools. Neurosoup knows a thing or two. Like Jefferson Airplane said, "Feed you head for you gonna chase rabbits".

@SHEMEANzEVRyTHANG2ME May i give you an advice: don't do it in a workweek. The aftermath was crazy and i couldn't concentrate for a week.
