hey, yoyoyo, if ya want a radioheadjob exp, go into your music editor and stack a copy of this song on top of itself, only start pyramid song #2 smack-dab in the middle of the first two piano chords...the effect is more radiohead than radiohead...i wonder if they built it like that on purpose, and i am the superhuman RH fan that figured it out first! try it, it will be worth the money... what money?
BAH! Back in 2001 I HATED Kid A and Amnesiac and I especially hated Pyramid Song. i would try to listen to those albums but turn them off in disappointment and listen to OK Computer. Then around the time Hail to the Thief came out, I can't really describe it, but somehow I found myself really getting into those two albums and adoring Pyramid Song. Here it is 2011, ten years later, and I would give my left testicle to go back in time and attend this show.
@WickedLiquid Real good music is challenging. I myself found music which I continue to like 10 to 20 years on, I didn't initially like. This being one of those songs.
cuando escucho esta cancion y pienso en la letra no se por que me hace pensar en los mayas y de como desaparecieron y las piramides que dejaron, imaginacion mia no mas....
I like to think of it as 4/4 with a swing feel (like bdrums94). 4 bars (16 beats as Mondluchs noted) per phrase. Listen to Phil's ride cymbal, it's hitting 1/4 notes. And I think of the piano rhythm as clusters of 5 that are 1 1/2 beats (1/4 notes) apart with 2 full beats (1/4 notes) separating the clusters. The 1st, 3rd, and 5th chords are on the beat and the 2nd and 3rd are on the "ands". The phrase starts on the third piano chord in the cluster.
@MrWebberman That is also where the song begins, the bass and drums come in, and the chord progression changes occur. Hope my interpretation wasn't too confusing.
@MrWebberman I've learned how to play this song on piano and still don't really understand the rhythm. You really just have to play what sounds right because it's way too hard to try to understand.
@carnesaur Yes, there is a torrent for this concert. If you search "Radiohead Paris 2001" into a torrent search engine, it will come up. Hope that helps! :-)
@carnesaur It's on youtube, check out the channel 'AustinBrock'.
He's awesome and has many full radiohead concerts on youtube in fantastic quality, the video for this concert is called '[DVD] Radiohead - Kid A : Amnesiac in Paris 2001 [Full Show]'. :)
@glipglop55 I can see where you're coming from, but to me this song is encouraging. It's about overcoming the fear of death. "Nothing to fear, nothing to hide." It's about total spiritual freedom. And, at least for me, it helps put things in perspective.
When I first heard this I couldn't even listen to it because of how deeply depressed I was at the time. All my friends were raving about Amnesiac and I knew it was good, but just couldn't bring myself to hear it....it was too intense. Years later I picked it up and was able to absorb it. I still think that this song sounds like the pure pain and confusion of being in the depths of depression.
@glipglop55 I had a somewhat similar experience to you on that front. I began listening to their music when I was in the depths of depression as well. It helped me to cope quite a bit. Amazing what music can do.
true im trying to get somene to listen to radiohead to help them out of it. music stimulated our unconciuos mind in powerful ways did you know that, advertising companies are now using this as a marketing tool
@glipglop55 hmmm well if you isolate the lyrics, theyre actually quite uplifting. and if you isolate the music, its also quite uplifting. but you're right. when put together with thom's heartfelt vocals, it does portray a desperate attempt to redeem yourself out of the deepest holes of depression. I like your comment.
@glipglop55 You couldn bring your self to listen to it untill years had passed ?
Who are you ? a girl ? Emo girl ?, Seriously Radiohead fans are all like this ^^
By The way am i the only one able to notice how Crappy Their Live performance is ? That's very common when half decent musicians try to take it on the road, Only works in the Studio ;D haha
@mukkohaha You think Radiohead are crappy? Listen if you want to hear crappy, listen to Lady Gaga, The Wanted or any other here-today-gone-tomorrow band. Radiohead's music has emotion and power and will last forever. Crappy live performance? Not at all. Any Radiohead fan who listens to this will see the emotion Thom goes through when he plays this song. Make sure you actually know what you are talking about next time.
So you say this performance is crappy... why not try playing the whole thing, piano and vocals? Only then might you ever learn that you're in no position to criticize ;)
@mukkohaha Haha I was drunk when I wrote that, however I still stand by my opinion that there is such a great energy in Radiohead live performances (any live performances in fact).
@mukkohaha Yeah, the live performances of this song never really did this song justice. Thom's vocals don't have as much of an impact. I think if he worked on them and Jonny/Ed could replicate the entire string arrangement live, it'd be amazing.
i think bands like radiohead only come once in a life time. we should treat them like how we treated the beatles, or the who, of pink floyd. they are just simply amazing and are the best band ever to exsist. nuff said
@jonnycwilson Got that right! All my friends are "kind" of afraid of him. They find it very depressing and weird. Which is kinda true. I don't know why, but right after I heard it for the first time, I just couldn't stop. And pyramid song is, for me, the true definition of what Radiohead is all about. Glad to find someone who shares my opinion
still today Kid A and Amnesiac are THE "very best" of radiohead..it is so multydimensional with sooo many layers..probably 99% of other bends would create 10 albums from Kid A and Amnesiac...they really gave us "all"...no limits or boundaries...10 years after i still can find "new" sounds...and really..what other bend can suprise You after You had listen albums for God knows how many times?
this song blows my mind every single time! I truly love what those folks can do. Thom really brings thoughts from deep inside with his lyrics and the tone in which he sings them.
