African in our post-modern society, could be of any race from any country outside the continent Africa. Be yourself, do not loose your tradition and do keep in touch not just by reading books or using the media to understand what it is to be an African.
Having lived in the U.S my whole life, it's interesting when you go to other countries that received a large African diaspora. Take Brazil for instance, it's incredible to observe the number of blacks in that country. They aren't any different than African-American's.
First part was ridiculously idiotic and pointless. All they did was talk about frickin skin color. I'm mad they cut it off when it seemed like it was getting good.
Who gives a fuck about white people seriously.... We are suppose to be talking about African Diasporas & hell I thought it would always talk about creating wealth but you fools are so damn caught up about skin color...
Lets get it straight
Africans are not caught up with skin color its the Diasporas
yes a black person who appears white can be apart of the african diaspora, infact to be apart of the group all you need is to have a bloodline of africans in you and it only takes one
oh i wish there was more about African vs. African American shown. The economic discussion was getting interesting. Once again the whole "the community" phrase was used, and i bristled. But I will say this--I use the term black and A.-Am. but I would never just use the term African because i feel it is misleading, b/c it doesn't address, or rather gives the wrong impression on this topic, the topic of nationhood and citizenship-which is something that most be critically and politically
This is one of my favorite episodes. The panel discussions are informative. If you have not seen this show, these are some intelligent black people giving you knowledge and insight about our culture and the culture of America. There would be hardly no Dominicans or Puerto Ricans if the Spaniards did not rape the African slaves that where there. Only about 6% of all slaves came to north America. So lets remember that our latino brothers and sisters are apart of the African Diaspora also
i agree with you to a point but to only label all these interracial relationships as ones of only rape--power difference yes but only rape?--is misleading and incorrect
Actually, only it was about 5 percent of all African slaves that were arriving to the Western Hemisphere came to USA (including Canada) ! The remaining 95 percent went to Brazil, and South America, and Central America and the Caribbean !
Also Brazil alone recieved like between 39% to 46% of the total of slaves arriving to the New World !
By the time slavery was abolished in Brazil which was in 1888, more than 4 to 5 million slaves had been imported to Brazil over the course of trades !
It really sucks, I wish blacks had their own language so we could talk and no one could understand us lol
