dude drilling the the tank for reef tank is cheaper then buying the over flow box right? did u drilled a circle behind the reef tank right? nice vid by the way?
depends on the quality of the diamond hole saw you buy... your drill... and if your tank is tempered glass you can't drill it i've heard... i drilled a hole in the rear of the tank.. and cut up a whisper HOB filter to make the overflow cover infront of the hole... is way too loud for where it is in my house.. might try to remove the abs and replace it with polychloride tubin...
with a cap and an air nipple on it... i thought of that.. and problably should of done that before i glued it all together...lol.. might try drilling a hole in the top of the 90' and siliconing in an air line...

if i were you i would put a t pipe on the top of noisy skimmer drain, the 90 degree allows suction to build
