The Iraq war's legality is being questioned more and more. Here in the UK, there's renewed talk about a public enquiry.
As for Bush trying to "forestall the lending binge" - I work in financial services, in a fairly senior role. Bush II favoured light-touch regulation and the "feelgood factor" (cheap credit).

Cheap credit due to surpluses in China etc led banks to seek out new profit sources including sub-prime. But sub-prime was less than 50% of the real estate lending boom. And it was banks, ratings agencies and other lightly-regulated private-sector agents who invented and sold CDOs etc as "low-risk".

I wish it wasn't true, but Jackie hits the nail on the proverbial head. He should move to San Francisco and run for office, because we need Jackie Mason in California just to mess with Arnold Schwarzenegger's head. Maybe get him to convert to Judaism.
