Sounds like possibly mentally slow or not sure of the proper term. Theres a guy at a Starbucks near me that is like that. He sits & talks to ppl putting cream/sugar in their coffee & then wants to open door for women when they leave. I try to understand but it's still creepy.
I had a similar experience when I was 12. I'm 46 now. There are so many dangerous jerks out in the world. If something like that happens make sure you stay in a public place and call for some help. I'm glad you are smart and observant. He sounded like a total NUT!!

If the cashier asked if there was a problem, just respond, "I need to speak with a Manager right now please"! Doing so let the "creep" know to back off, and it insured she had an escort.
Sounds to me like he had a medical problem..not making any excuse for him at all because its still very uncomfortable and creepy but i work with people like that and there have been times where one of the clients will be in line and tend to bother people and ask questions and touch things in their carts, i will admit they get a little into your personal space but some of them mean no harm and wont even remember you in 5 minutes....sorry you had to deal with it alone and glad he didnt follow you

O m gee. This reminds me when I went to get some gas before work one day. Its a gas station connected to a McDonalds. So I paid for gas and then went inside Mcdonalds to get some food .
