  • "cà phê sữa đá" is what you are making :X

  • this is definitely the way to make fine coffee in Vietnamese style :) U have to wash your cup and filter with hot water first. Pour a little hot water first, wait for coffee powder to absorb to get the best taste and fragance.

  • this is not realy coffee it is mixed with manz thinks like burne suger and manz spice

  • @cpthemonstergamer

Yu cud get them at a asain store

  • where do i get one of those?

  • Known locally as cà phê sữa đá (Vietnamese milk coffee iced). We have it in Cambodia as well. Basically, anywhere the French were, they left coffee and baguettes.

  • What grind should the coffee have? espresso? french press? somewhere in between?

  • you also don't want to use *boiling* water. just shy of a boil

  • looks just about right to me

  • I like it so strong it dissolves the spoon.

  • is there a certain blend i should use??

  • Omg that's a lot of water lol. I usually pour in only 1/3-1/5 of the drip pot. Too much water will introduce the 'sour' taste to the coffee. For a less concentrated drink, i dilute it with water afterward or just let the ice melts instead.

  • @bkhoavo Thanks, that's a good idea! I'll try that next time I make it.

  • @FrenchMartini - actually, you should put just a 'little' water in first (less than an Oz) to let the coffee 'bloom'. Wait about 20~30 seconds. Then pour the rest of the water in - just as you have done.

  • thank u for uploading! for the german coffee lovers: die süße Kondensmilch kann man in guten supermärkten unter dem Namen "Milch Mädchen" von Nestle, auch in der praktischen Tube, kaufen.

  • the only bad thing about viet coffee is that it is stronger than espresso and it is highly addictive

  • Any coffee enthusiast will tell you Vietnam has the best cup of coffee in the world :D

  • i think theres something wrong with my little press. water flows down like a waterfall!

  • @Antphoneigh Same here! Does anyone have any recommendations to this?

  • @Antphoneigh use that lid thingy inside and compress the coffee , then tip boiling water over the metal inside thingy slowly till its filled and put the top lid on.

You have to leave that flat lid inside pushing the coffee down before you add any boiling water.

  • Vietnamese ice coffee is suppose to be drunk little at a time to enjoy the flavor. I see most people drink coffee like water. Some people like to drink Vietnamese ice coffee different ways, but the original way and the way that most vietnamese people make it is this: The stronger it is, the better. The condensed milk should also be strong. At the begining, you should pour a little boiled water in the filter to let the coffee beans expand. There should be more ice than coffee.

  • Hi, nice strainer, it's clean and practical. Where did you get that? Brand? Is that specifically for Vietnamese coffee? Thanks

  • @meappy I don't know the brand but I bought these at Ranch 99 market (they would probably be available from any Asian market or cooking supply store,) They cost about $4 each. I've only used them from Vietnamese coffee but I'm sure that you could use them with any other strong drip coffee.

  • how many ounces is that glass that you are using?

  • @kimmie117 It's a 10 oz. glass.

  • You can also use Cafe Du Monde, if you can't find Trung Nguyen.

  • @rendezvous65 Cafe Du Monde is great!

  • What kind of coffee are you using? I tried making one today but the water just went pass my coffee.

  • @anniepoonanie

It's a Vietnamese ground coffee called Trung Nguyen. They have two flavors: 1 and 2. I recommend Flavor 1 - it's much better than 2. You can find the coffee at Ranch 99 markets.

  • @FrenchMartini Gotta love that naming system! Nice vid.

  • @anniepoonanie Anything with chicory in it. It's a little bit finer of a coffee and gives it that beautiful color as well!

  • @tkem28 ~Thanks, I look for it the next time I head to the asian stores.

  • i dont know why everyone correcting you but thats how i do it

  • have 1 tip in this , when you get water boil ,you get a litter water boild then take full water boil (sorry my english not good much ^_^)

  • As tynh1225 said, pour some in first - about 40ml (1.5oz), then wait for about 2 minutes. Then, pour another 40ml. The VN way is to use about four tablespoons of coffee, and about 80ml of water. And good recommendation to screw the filter down a bit more to compress the coffee. Strong? Heck yeah! That's the whole point!

  • Thanks. I love ca phe sua da too!

I am just not good at making it at home.

  • posted a video response, something I shot in Bac Ha

    like your vid

  • Not bad. I use much more coffee, and like the others said, Put some water first then compact the grounds. Then add more water. Good video

  • you didnt compact the coffie grounds enough, it dripped way to fast, not good enough! XD

  • Nicely done...just had this for the first time and hope I can drink at home soon.

  • wayy too much water buddy, half of that, tihs is milk coffee. press the filter down a little more so it drips slower for better flavor. Most drink without milk, in that case, remember to add sugar when its hot before putting in the ice.

  • i have a coffee shop in manila and i plan to serve vietnamese style coffee.this clip helps a lot.thanx..

  • best coffee ever

  • I adore viet ice coffee. That and a bowl of Pho Bo Vien makes my life complete.

  • agree i looove pho its the best :D

  • LoL, aren't you supposed to put the filter in first then the coffee on top of that? Its a double filter.

  • I've seen it done both ways but it makes more sense to press the coffee (like an espresso).

  • Sorry it took so long to respond, I just checked my inbox. From all the comments, its seems you are also correct. I also tried it your way. Works great. My apologies.

  • No, she's got it correct - put the filter on top of the coffee. Those doing this for the first time will want to experiment with the tightness of the filter. Many prefer a tighter filter, with a slower drip and stronger coffee.

  • every pho place I've seen puts the filter on top of the coffee - she has it correct

  • every pho place I've seen puts the filter on top of the coffee - she has it correct

  • She is correct. The filter goes on top.
