I lost the 1990s and most ot the noughties.... would luv to relive the 80s with what I know and have now..... so much happened musically and technology wise
This is honestly better than Yamaha Motiff, just like the Yamaha PSS-790 is better than the PSR-295, but there all different in their own way but the Motiff can't replace the TG-33 just like the PSR-295 can't replace the PSS-790.
You can't actually program the FM portion without computer software. You can slap presets all you like, but you can't actually use the synthesis portion of the FM side without computer software, there are no parameters accessible on the machine's menus to actually do FM synthesis. I'm not talking about picking an FM preset (which is exactly what you do if you're using the unit's menus) , I'm talking about creating original FM sounds.
I just bought one of these today, along with a TX 7. $100 for both. I'm stoked to try these out, but I have to buy some oldschool MIDI cables and I order a power supply. Whatever though!
Nice sounds! I just found a TG-33 at recycle shop in excellent condition, with manual and adapter. However i notice the LCD display seems hard to read (ie. a bit faded) when you stand directly above it, but if you move to the front of the TG33 gets more contrast and its easier to read. Anyone notice this? It may be a defective display in the one i found.
my second synth..........it's close to me now a bit dusty but is still usefull. i remember was enthusiastic about its nocturnal, deep and evocative sounds...nice.
Hey, i've recently brought the TG-33 and basically i want to know what set up your using to play it cause i plugged it via midi in to my sh-201 but nothing happened, if anyone could help i'd be very thankful!
Make sure that the tg33 is set to receive on the right midi channel-It is not just a case of plugging a midi lead into it you have to make sure the tg33 is set up properly to recieve midi.
press the utility button and hit the +1/yes key until the receive ch=omni
Hey, awesome sounds! Could I just plug one of these straight into a midi controller and speakers and that would be only I need to make groovy retro tunes?
I got one coming from ebay...thank you for posting the video as I have been worried ever since I won the auction as EVERY review had a bad review of the instruments sampled...but i heard the piano and think they are pretty good..i dont need anything that sounds like like a concert grand or anything ridiculous like that..i also heard several sounds on this vid that I know I will like playing with.
Besides the Wavestation series, the TG33/SY22 synths are some of the very best. My problem is programming them, I get stuck playing with a sound and 3 hours later I haven't made anything!
True, I found myself stuck too, playing only a few sounds on my synths. Try recording your playing and be inspired to create other sounds, by listening or playing along with e different preset or personal patch.
I used to use it yonks ago and thanks to your nice demo I've decided to buy it back.I've come across some info that with some fiddly tweak around the parameter(either on TG55 or this33)you can get some sounds that close to TB-303!?.I don't know if that's true though.
It's possible. I've done similar sounds by programming the vector control to fast sweep between darker and brighter bass sounds. Although I will say that it's easier to create 303-ish on a cheap FM synth like the DX100, DX21, DX27 or (in my case), TX81Z. Love my TG33 - was just making some percussive keyboard sounds yesterday. Only problem is the limited editing depth without a computer programmer. Wish I could modify the FM frequencies easier (ie, set them in fixed intervals).
That's negative. Layering is out of the question, too. Multitimbrality is limited to stacking with each different midi channels, giving it some basic functionality as a GM module if need be.

you need the programming software in order to actually program the FM portion instead of using the presets.
The TG-33 also has some effects onboard.

@EDraven32 i take it u didnt read the manual? cuz u can change anything a b c or d without any outside editor
and this guy isnt even using the vectoring none-the-less the dynamic vectoring
havent played with this for a bit so goin on long term memory but heres the basic idea
a and c are ur voices like bells or drums or watever u want
b and d are ur modulations which are also assignable
and u can also make dynamic vectors that sweep automatically for u

I just got a TG-33 but find that it distorts very easily when playing chords on several preset patches. Is this normal?
RandyVogue 1 year ago
@RandyVogue
i have one of these, and ive found just turning down the outputs helps with distortion

Im having the same problem. And turning down main level doesnt help, maybe you mean turning down the level on actual patch?

@TPsynth The solution I found is to, turn down the levels of the 4 elements themselves. Then ti does not distort. Turned them down to around 77-80.

Start up the SH-editor on your pc. go to the system in the editor. make sure that remote keyboard is set to on.
plug a midicable from the sh ( in) to the TG ( out) . that should do the trick.
I did this myself just now so i know it works. have fun playing.
StudioF 2 years ago
is it possible to do this without the PC? thanks for the help by the way
oliblud 2 years ago
No, you have to use the editor to activate remote keyboard. after that you can disconnect the sh from the pc and start playing.

Hello,
Is it fussy as to which version of windows you use?
and is the editor program a free download?
I'm looking at one on ebay, but I don't want to get one only to find you have to have a pc with windows 95 to edit the patches etc
Cheers,
SONGSTICKS 1 year ago
@SONGSTICKS you don't need a pc to edit the patches. but there is an pc editor for the TG. and yes it's free. i used the editor once on a windows XP.

Use Midiquest or Sounddiver... either one works great for programming your hardware on your computer.

The TG-33 has no resonance filter, so it's unlikely that you can get close to a TB-303
