Indeed, he may well be suffering from OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea), which stops the sufferer reaching deep sleep, and can lead to serious heart and other health problems later in life. If he's often sleepy during the day that's another sign he's suffering from OSA. He should get tested at a sleep clinic. I snored badly for 20 years before getting myself to a specialist and being diagnosed with OSA. Now I use a CPAP machine and am also seriously considering surgery to open up my airways.

he needs a cpap. I am trying to get my friend to a doctor to get a cpap. he won't listen. Please this is dangerous and causes strokes heart attacks and other health problems.
