  • @achillesian either his typing skills are to the insane, or he edited the video so that it only looks like that, because if you look closely then you notice that hes erasing the characters so goddamn fast it is unhuman without two backspaces, plus if you open notepad and just mash your keyboard, then you are only typing around as fast or slower than that, and you just cant get that good at typing.

  • @achillesian I know there are people that can type that fast, but I do think it's actually sped up a little, look at how fast he deletes his mistakes of multiple characters, I don't think anyone can physically press the backspace key that fast. Unless he has a high timer on the repeating nature of the key, which I doubt! I type fairly speedy too, about 110 words per minute.

When I first started watching, I had no real interest in the game, but I saw you were really skilled and had a great way of expressing yourself. I've watched almost every video, and its something I wait for in the week; as much as I do my favorite television shows.

Not the fact that realism is a huge flaw of gaming, the fact that humans are very hard to recreate, the fact that humanoids have less of an effect on the community because people don't mind killing them as much, and that it's always a good thing to have something interesting and different in your game, and not the same old humans?

  • @jimporfit AI have to be realistic and smart idiot. Having realistic AI is what gives the game a challenge, especially in an action game.

  • @oharryooyo you can download the alpha if you've pre ordered, though I wouldn't recommend pre ordering an unfinished game, I learnt my lesson with minecraft.

  • The men creating Overgrowth are GODS of videogaming. Even if the actual game ends up never being released or they all die in one of the most tragic events in history, I will personally never forget that they actually contributed to videogames as a form of entertainment, and truly attempted to push the medium. THIS IS WHAT A VIDEOGAME SHOULD BE.

  • @8linck8 Doom3 was in developement for 4 years. Serious sam 3 was in developement for 4 years. Half life 2 was in developement for 4 years.

    Great games sometimes take years to finish.

    alot of coding, programming, designing, manufacturing data, testing, working out algorythms, studying languages and C++ coding, science of monitoring and reworking hundreds of functions on an engine built by 2 people.

    Making videogames is actually, really really hard. very hard.

    Any idea how far this is from actually releasing though? Making games IS hard, But making something like HF2 is harder than making a game like this.

    I understand its 2 people, But they should have developed their studio more (Release smaller games) before trying such a big thing.

    Dont get me wrong, This game looks AWESOME as hell, But it seems to be too much for only 2 guys, And it shows on the time spent. :P

  • @8linck8 I'm guessing 2 more years. this is a huge project. the ambitions and goals in the project seem like somthing compared to a big developer game, regarding open world like structure, interaction with enviroment and adventure genre. they have combat and gameplay very tuned and clean, its a matter of adding tads and bits of variety, weapons and levels. their last game lugaru was the same type of game but graphics made development time very quick compared to overgrowth.

  • @newdoom3 I can notice the fighting is very clean & IDK, The way they move is just awesome to watch. Simply watching the dev videos is very entertaining. Awesome game indeed, Graphics are also very good. But all Im trying to say is that they went over their heads with this one.

    Sure they have the skill to make it & They know how to make it, But they should have grown more as a studio before taking in such a project. Its coming out great, But its taking a bit too long, If you know what I mean :P

    I myself cant work on something for THAT long without getting "OMFG I love you!!" every 5mins, Or else Ill be too unmotivated to keep working.

    But when I do stuff like Photoshop orso I can sometimes stay a whole day (And I mean since the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep) working on 1 thing & Because I like it I never stop.

  • @8linck8 If they had more people and sped it up it would end up being sloppy like most other games, where they go so fast that they miss parts and don't check it, then you just get a big mess of features and bugs like Minecraft.

The technology demonstrations are so interesting, but I don't know if I would like the game. I'm into parkour, and it seems really fun to do in this game, but I don't care for fighting at all, so I'm kind of worried about getting it. And I also don't know what the full game will be like, so I'm not gonna pre-order it for 30 bucks. Maybe $15...

  • A much needed update. Great job wolfire team! I like the fact that you could essentially have a dozen "minions" (DnD definition) and one boss that has unique properties to that particular battle. Keep up the great work!

  • I think this has exposed to me a very core fault in the combat system. Is there any point where a player with supernatural reflexes (Ie a computer) or natural muscle memory to even be hit? Or could they infinitely dodge and block everything? Is there any method of breaking a guard? A heavy blow? A tackle? I'm uncomfortable with the thought that when fighting an AI a simple Rand.Int(1,100) if greater than blocking determines whether or not I hit them.

  • @Triskitout If you're not familiar with any martial arts, the general idea among the more proficient practitioners is something called attacking "in the simultaneous." You can do this in Overgrowth by either performing the same attack as your opponent a few milliseconds prior to him, or intercepting an incoming attack with a faster one. It works every time, no matter how skilled the opponent.

  • Seems like it might be interesting to have a "timid" behavior that makes enemies run away if they become outnumbered. It felt as if the last guard at 0:45 wanted to, but didn't know how.

  • Hey, sorry if I'm a bit of a scrub, but what is language is this coded in? Oh and is 1:16 Visual studio?

  • @DrSCHNO Likely C++ and using a number of C libraries. When it shows code in this video around the 1:16 mark, that's a scripting file, not code. It could be any program with a syntax highlighter (Notepad++ to GVim to Visual Studio to MinGWDS)

    Since they're targeting this to multiplatform, it's *super* unlikely that they're using Visual Studio. IIRC, the Visual Studio C compiler has some weird behaviors, it likes to ignore things that would usually prevent other compilers from compiling.

  • I'm loving this alpha the parameters open alot of new possibilties, you can fight a bunny as fast as a matrix agent or have sword fights with high health so they last extremely long and everybody is all red from all the blood.

  • @GanjaMunchman Because although David likes action games, he don't feel comfortable in make a game in which a human being kills another. So he always used abstract characters on his games. Plus, he likes the idea of an animal, known by its docility, being violent against other rabbits (and wolves).

  • @TheLetterY13 That isn't the game's actual language. It's Javascript, which the game reads to make modifications. It's like saying Crysis was made in Lua because the AI behavior is governed by Lua scripts.

  • Had an idea for group fights. Say there's like 5 enemies, they all start out as a sort of "easy" level. But with each one that is taken out, their difficulty increases. So by the last one, it's a seriously hard dude but still one of the guys from the start.

    Probably wouldn't fit into story but would make for a nice challenge map type.

  • If you guys still have not comprehended it yet, his audio is a voice over, meaning he edited the video then added his voice, so when he was typing, that was fast forwarded. He does not have 23456789 fingers to type that fast, unless he plays Starcraft.

  • @boks111 It's not fast forwarded. Look at how the mouse moves in the same scene, and also watch the character. It's normal speed, this guy has some serious typing skills.

    I wish I could type that fast.
