Break a few heads, shoot a few people, business will improve. Tony's business model resembles the big banks now, only they just kill people less directly.
@GlitterMike i think they'd weather it well, as far as the traditional mob staples...gambling, prostitution and drugs are recession proof...as long as people have public assistance checks they will have money to spend for vice...but other aspects of the business may suffer...
@Joey123L I would imagine their shy would go through the roof too, i.e. all those people desperately needing money that they can't borrow from banks. However, I'm sure their take from construction would suffer.
If you go back and think about it, Carlo becoming a rat made sense. He was "old school' and was finally was fed up with Tony's philosphy of "money first, family second". From this tirade, to the whole way Tony handled the Vito situation, to the New York issue entirely. Carlo didn't feel appreciated and hence a guy like that is easy to flip. Tony talked that family nonsense, but all he cared about was making money at the end of the day. This was evident in the later seasons especially.
@Antrizzle2009 Let me be clear: NO, guy in the Midwest that is operating in the Mafia, Lives in a house like Tonys. Low Key is the way they play it. and listen, they are all cheap, and Stingy to a "T"
@returnofthepiggsy Ray Curto finally kicked it in an FBI car while saying "I'll testify.." Carlo "disappeared" also in the last 2 episodes in the final season and the last episode Made in America, Tony's lawyer said "someone is singing", so it should be Carlo. Patsy Parisi should have been top capo amongst these rats..

Albert made a good character on the show. I wonder why he didn't have a larger role.

This took place during the 2001 recession, which was relatively mild. I wonder how Tony's crew would weather the current recession.

@jthyflyer "Shy" is short for "shylocking," which is another term for loan sharking.

I think my favorite part has to be when Tony reminds them all of their debt to Junior and their faces reflect the insanity of that remark.
