  • i just don't see the point of a bass that large, it seems to get in the way more than not, if you want the low end tone why not use an octave pedal or an upright bass

  • mucho bajo para ese meko ni toka nada :/

  • big guitars have a bigger sound, playing from E to e on a seven string will sound bigger then it would on a six string.

  • @deicidalmaniac Too bad you only play one string at a time on bass.

  • Jis that really nessacary? O.o

  • stupidest bass ever

  • Imagine if that had a floyd bridge....nearly impossible to float it

  • the best part was when you couldn't hear a single note that was played

  • @mackles

Not sure what video you're watching, but it was all pretty audible to me.

  • awesome dude...don't listen to these guys who are criticizing you...from a professional musician: you have a really cool instrument...keep it up and you'll be stranglin that thing with the best of em in no time

  • Whatever.Sometimes I think my 6-string is too much for metal. In my opinion, master the typical, then add strings. I'd actually prefer to down-grade to a 5, but I don't care enough to invest.

  • The ents in lord of the rings called. they want their dicks back

  • how many trees did it take to make that bass?!?!

  • it doubles as a skateboard

  • oh dear...

  • Sorry man ... But Practice on a 4. Right now you have limited right hand attack and your left hand is very hesitant on the frets. Not saying this knock you ... But hope this comes across as constructive criticism

  • The strings r there, its the bottom ones u cnt see cuz they're so thin

  • some people burn trees for firewood, this guy puts strings on it and plays em lol

  • Uh, sir, I think you're using that surfboard incorrectly...

  • Cast that grotesque abomination off the mountain for it is not welcome in Sparta!

  • Waste of poor trees.

  • whats the point of having that bass if you're not even going to use all the strings

  • @grimiguana Exactly what I was thinking, all the people that bash on extended range basses are fucking stupid, but in this case it makes sense as he doesnt do anything in the extended range. Hes definitely no Jeff Hughell.

  • I got carpal tunnel just from watching this video.

  • where the fuck are all my floorboards

  • errrrr....

what's the use of the rest of the STRINGS??

  • @krambok great quesiton bro...

  • Somebody's pool is missing a diving board....

  • well looks like someone has to compensate

  • fuck all haters, IHATEYOUTUBEdotCOM

  • Trust me im not hating on this video at all but I know for a fact that bass is just too big for any human to play.....

  • i dont see the point to ahve that much string if you'r not doing taping os sweep -_-

  • @DarkminiStoned what?

  • i see Carpal tunnel syndrome in your future buddy....stop playing a 10 string bass, it's so unnecessary, play a 6 string at least, fuck.

  • why r u guys hating just because your too chicken shit to pick up a 10 string? god damn the main reason for having more strings is for a wider range and more fun. you have to be really creative to play one of these. not saying a 6 isnt cool but doesnt have much range. these just have a wider variety of tones 2 play. if u dont like it then oh well but dont talk shit. damn hes not in the vid talking about 6 stringers now is he? no or in bass terms 4 stringers

  • That neck is massive!! I don't think I'd personally want to go beyond a 6. Kudos to the guy for the effort! Seems like a 10 is mostly a tapping type instrument, like a Chapman stick.

  • its shows too bud,,yr an idiot that u dont play

  • @corybiro What?

  • OK THE PURPOSE OF THIS BASS IS WHAT,IF YOUR ONLY GONNA USE THE STRINGS U WOULD USE ON A REGUALR,SEEMS LIKE THE GUY SUKS,

  • @corybiro What?

  • why?

  • OPTMUS PRIME CALLED...

HE WANTS HIS DICK BACK lol

  • Why all those strings when he mostly uses only the first 4/5 of them?

    I don't get it.

    Anyway, good vid.

  • Thats dumb as hell

  • thats one fking nice bass right there

  • wowowow this guys has 2 eat something O.o

  • Comment removed

  • please tell me what the point is considering i only seen you play the first four strings...you could have played that exact lame bassline on a 5 string bass and save yourself the carpal tunnel problems you'll have in a few years

  • Cool stuff.

  • sorry, but this is just lame

  • imagine restringing

  • if i had that bass i'd take it into a repair shop and ask for them to adjust the truss rod and replace the bridge just for their reaction.

  • @tarhit9 I think it would be one of despair!

    :P

  • you should try a piano.

  • Recording on lobster.

  • I love the number of comments on here giving the guy a hard time for using an extended range bass. It's all jealous cunts with wee dicks basically. I've seen Maelstrom a couple of times and they can all play like fuck.

  • I play trees sometimes.

  • @seanthecadaver the awkward moment when your comment is a poor rip of someone else's, for all the world to see.

  • Comment removed

  • He has a 10 string bass. Your argument is invalid

  • And my favorite comment about ERB players:

”He must be making up for a lack of manhood.”

I would say the long-distance mocking of someone’s instrument choice in a video comments section better fits that description.

  • >”He could play that track with less strings.”

Does a piano player use the full range of his keyboard on every track, or does he play what’s appropriate? Does a pianist use a full grand piano only for its range? Maybe Chris Cameron found the tone of those particular strings of that particular instrument perfect for that particular song.

  • @he1mut I guess his point is that we all know it's just show off.

  • @zakkah93

And you "know it's just show off" because - - -

    - -So, our commenter’s are not only final authorities on proper ERB bass usage, but they are psychic as well!

  • @he1mut You put that so perfectly! I usually also describe it as an artists canvas...A painter wants ALL his paints and brushes at his/her disposal, even if he only ends up using two. It's simply having the choice there that creates the inspiration. Many people don't get that, and those people tend not to be musicians or artists. And with that small minded attitude, it's better they arent. Thanks for posting such a perfectly said statement.

  • @he1mut Coming from a fellow bassist, I would much prefer to have multiple basses in different tunings to the purpose you state. I can understan using such an instrument if you wrote a song that actually needs all those strings. Such a wide fretboard would be uncomfortable, I think.

  • @he1mut That's BS!

  • @he1mut I see your point but more keys on a piano doesn't make the instrument more cumbersome to play.

  • @he1mut none of their songs do

  • @he1mut yeah youre right, besides its also the wideness of the fretboard that makes it somewhat comforting for the hands (for me at least)

  • @he1mut I'd be more prone to agree with you if what he played was technical, but it was really pretty basic. Granted he could have vastly more difficult songs but what I saw here seemed like he was using the bass guitar as his "thing." It appeared as a way to draw attention to an average player, while not actually being very practical as opposed to videos I've seen where the player will emulate two instruments, or just use the range to get a unique sound. Here it just seems pointless

  • ”(enter name) only needed 4 strings”

I’m not sure what this really means. James Jamerson never used effects. He only needed round wounds and 10 frets. Did that make Jaco and Stanley’s use of equipment frivolous? Sure most current great players use 4s or 5vers. That closes the door on other choices because - - -?

ALSO: Do you think any great 4 and 5 string players secure in their skillset bother to mock ERB users?

  • Where did you get the pickups for that thing?

  • @LanceSaunders They are custom wound ACG house pickups

  • Thats a nice tree

  • Dude you get props for playing that "THING"...lol

  • How the hell do u tune that thing... Is there a special tuner

  • The rainforest called, they want their trees back

  • Ahh the pioneers of the 10 string bass... Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke, Gary Willis, John Patitucci, Cliff Burton (wasn't that a peavey 10 string he had?), Myung, Dave Holland, Chris Squire... when are they going to come out with a 25 string bass so that players like this guy can move past the old masters?

  • @oaktubs burton didnt play a 10 he played a five. Myung played 6 string love his work. now jaco you want his sound get a bp355. its patch 16. nice sound too

  • @mangudiaforce burton played a four lol

  • @Phillygthemessenger acctually no he didnt.he never played above a 5 string. and he really didnt need to. he could do with a 5 string what most couldnt do with a 6

  • ¿Porqué no te comprás un jazz bass, con el resto un automovil y te vas bien a la loma del orto? No saben qué hacer con la plata...

  • @AttitudeCastle and as for you knowing any thing about the bass shown i saw the garbage you were using. if you has a 6 you would have been using it. unless you cant play it. 6 is as small as i go. i only go up. as for knowing any thing. you prove what you can do but to me that is nothing. now the bass herer he is somthing. as for me i had my run to watch my lead guitar throw it all away. for one night of fun that he never recovered from and what was the first thing i order a 10

  • Tuning that shit must be a bitch. A BITCH.

  • @solidiquis1 acctually is all 5th across the neck. simple to tune. straight forward. as with any bass. the only bass that will be tricky is the 8 and 10 and 12 paired. they are harmony basses. the paired strings are the same just an octave jump it like a bass and lead string paired. it will require a tuner if your not adept to tuning by ear.

  • @mangudiaforce It's actually all 4ths across the neck(from low to high, if you meant from high to low then you are correct), but I agree, so many people miss understand ERBs and write them off it's a stupid reason to write something off!

  • @AttitudeCastle no boy you use the 5th frett to tune with. you been trying to argue with a 39 year vet to playing. i even know the time line of seeing ERB come out. i remember when there was nothing but a 4 string bass and as for 30,000 you could not get all the options to add up to anything near that. but you tuen to the 4th ill tune to the 5th. you know the funny thing is you show no vids of these guitars or you using them

  • @mangudiaforce Look up the circle of 5ths, The fith fret of the E string is an A. An A is a 4th above E. A 5th above E would be a B. The fact that is the 5th fret that is used in tuning has nothing to do with it. I never said the options would make it cost that much, i said import duty, and Tax would hike the price up to that, you live in the United states, I live in the United Kingdom. The ERB (starting with the 6 sting bass) was invented by Antony Jackson in the mid 70s right?

  • @mangudiaforce I can send you a copious number of pictures if you wish?

  • @mangudiaforce The 6 string, i can upload a video of whenever, the ERBs live at my rehersal room. What would you like me to play?

  • @AttitudeCastle just play something your best riff whatever. thing is boy you are going up against 39 years of bass. you wont believe what i sound like you tube cant justly do it with me posting on an l 18. but dont worry i got a riff im working on a just on the 6 but ill post it soon enough but it will be on my space

  • @mangudiaforce How about, we both cover an agreed upon song? That way we'll have a reference point from the orginal

  • @AttitudeCastle lol cover. i dont do covers. havent sence the forming of Eclipse put out your best song something never heard before. put all the flash you can. make it the best you can do. make it a solo project nothing but bass. use what ever you wish. post it show your more tallented USE YOUR OWN WORK

  • @mangudiaforce Well compositional merit and straight up skill on the bass guitar are seperate things, but never the less as you wish. Though, then no "marks" can be deducted for the composition it self as then it's not a fair or direct comparison. As all the flash I can, wouldn't make it a good solo/tune especially as it's just one instrument!

    And does style/genre matter?

  • @AttitudeCastle just play the best you can use anything you wish. make it your music. your song just the base. a single track im not saying do a solo album. jsut one song show your best. as for marks who cares about marks or what ever. just sit down record the song post it. that simple. you say i have no tallent show your best. can you do that post a vid of you playing solo just one song.

  • @AttitudeCastle just do your best. make a solo bass track and post it no limits

  • This Bass is beyond rediculous

  • That's not even Necessary.

  • @FuckingFORREST acctually forrest they are an exstention of the player. jean baudin look him up that is an 11 string he is playing. and as for bass he is the best of the best of us. i cant even tell you what to call what he plays. just its beutiful amaising trippy bass. me im just a metal bass i like playing fast but i never thought of doing what jean dose LOOK him up see what is possable

  • Awesome playing!!! Check out my page for some Warr madness and tell me what you think!

  • omfg how many fucking strings itar, come on really???

  • whats the tuning on that thing?

  • @Cookieonbass low c low f low b E A D G hi c hi f hi a

  • Wat da fuck 0.o

  • this is how I'd play this bass guitar (without a pick), if I had one...

In fact that's a lot pity this bass guitar has such owner I do believe it cries every night, wishing to be played by any tech-prog-metal bass player.

(and of course, sorry for my Eng)

  • like peeling a grape with a machete....

  • think a 4, maybe 5 would have been a better way to spend your hard earned £££

  • What a waste of cash and wood. Idiot.

  • Just give that beautiful instrument to Alex Webster, Les or Ryan, or maybe see what Flea can do with it, since you were too fucking lazy to put the last strings on it.

  • This guy is terrible for having practiced 4-5 hours a day at one point.

  • I was ready to burn some people from seeing the dislikes but then I watched him use 1/3 of the bass -.-

  • @KrackenCanDrum Exactly why I stopped playing eight-string guitar and concentrated on playing 5-string bass better instead. All of this could have been recorded on a 4-string bass. ERIs are just image toys to some people. That said, the bass itself looks fantastic. Alan of AGC makes great instruments.

  • @Prostheta Lol true true, I suppose it's the same reason I constantly add onto my set. Granted I use everypiece that I own lol

  • @KrackenCanDrum That's different though. Like adding new words to your vocabulary. I considered moving to 6-string bass but after playing one for a couple of weeks I really didn't feel I was gaining anything. I still play 4-string bass because it has something different to say to 5-string. I'm sick to death of hearing phrases like "ERI", "ERB" and "technical death metal". Seems people like to choose tags and rely on people believing that they fit within them. Very very sad.

  • @KrackenCanDrum I bet you still enjoy a 5-piece though, right?

  • @Prostheta 6 pieces now, but then again I use the tom I added as if it was a standard XD And I know exactly what you mean. Everybody's Progressive and Technical now..but lately I'm hearing more of off time and terrible music. Everybody wants to create a new sound yet nobody's willing to step up and actually create it. I'm seeing people with 8 strings do standard arpeggios with maybe a tap added to the mix. Wonderful, now play something that guitar was made for lol

  • @KrackenCanDrum I was always taught to work within the context of the music. Serve the music. Even Meshuggah for all their odd meters and timings write for the track, not just to flash their instruments or other non-track things. The geeks would like to think they write using weird stuff out of principle, but they freely admit that they write with the music in mind, not the math or the "technical" crap. People add that afterwards.

  • I cant hear the bass, its too low.

  • That is the stupidest thing I've ever seen.

  • damn my left hand would be mad sore

  • this isnt that good

  • WHY?

  • Ok, he doesn't need as much strings, but what he's playing is some tight-ass shit, and he gets some killer tone out of that thing. I think he deserves more credit, instead of all the critisism on his bass.

  • @timmotjo17 I couldn't agree less.

  • I don't always buy a 10string bass,

    but when I do,

    I only use 4 strings

  • ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What's with the single finger picking?

  • needs more cowbell

  • "you're never gunna really need these notes." - so uhh... WHY THE FUCK DID YOU GET A 10-STRING?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • @PSILOCYBETRIBE YES!!! amazing band :) perth metal scene ftw

  • it's a shovel

  • This guy should wear a Scumbag Steve Hat

"Log entire rainforest to make 12-string bass

Use only the four standard strings"

  • @blaisems Funny, it's a 10 string bass.

  • @blaisems They cut down the same amount of trees to make this as they do 4-strings, you just use more for this.

  • uhhh theres other strings you kno?

  • seriously what is the point of this?

  • go to 11

  • What a waste of a bass. I'm disgusted.

  • he used 4 strings on a 10 string bass -_-

  • @APfershizzle He uses at least 5, and you should see him live he uses all of them usually!

  • dude!! who told you put strings on your skateboard was a good idea. . . . cause is great!!

  • anyone heard MAKE THEM SUFFER - MAELSTORM?

  • you fail, go buy a four string

  • so... what´s the idea?

  • Nice Bass, Video = Yawn!

  • the fret board kinda look big?... oh im just imaging things...

  • is there really any need for that may strings?

  • Esse baixo é muito exagerado. Muito feio.

  • lol that bass is bigger than him

  • I can do flat and sharp 5ths with some 3rds thrown in there too...on my 4 string

  • Sounds shit

  • oh my gosh whats with all the hate guys

  • i bet you won't be playing bass for many years.... that neck will fuck your wrist up, bad.

  • @6project6nightmare6 Tell that to Jean Baudin, he's been at it for years and he's fine!

  • technical death metal???? Save your bassist some money, and tell him to get a cheaper squire bass.. with only four strings.. that way he might get fuller use out of it. also you playing the mario theme tune is more difficult than the bass lines in this video lol

  • you're right hand looks too stiff, it feels uncomfortable even looking at it.

  • I agree

  • does he have a small dick? posers w their big instruments... not usefull not practical not good sounding not nice looking

  • poor tree

  • worst chewbacca impersonation ever

  • this is just stupid

  • i think you can write a song just by hitting the open strings in a specific order, how cool would that be?

  • hmm.. strings on a tree?

  • It's like a tree trunk, literally, a tree trunk, how impressive at first but obsolete at the same time.

Show me the case for it.

    At least you're doing something.

  • at 4:00 IHS kicks in. Bad outbreak. Worst case of itchy head syndrome I've seen all week.

  • How on earth do you manage to play that? O_O
