as far as I know, China is doing pretty well, in both disaster relief and preparing for the Olympics (Gosh perhaps only China can deal with the quake so effectively, think about Katrina, a real nightmare).

Also, if You've ever seen a Korean protest, the disdain for the police is a common sight. Some protesters attack the police with metal poles, bamboo sticks, or fists. These police are only college kids doing their mandatory military service. They aren't the same police as in the 80's under a dictatorial rule. When they are attacked, they respond, and then the cameras start rolling. I have to admit though, the protest organizers are extremely good at showing their side of the story

Vietnamese government has asked for their help to save their economy. Certainly bad things happened in China but in the recent years Chinese people are really catching up and start to lead eastern Asia together with Japan.
