This movie is difficult for me to watch. I had a very similar experience when I was by myself in Japan, and this movie brings up some of the same intense emotions I felt while I was there. It's hard to describe, but I can tell whoever created this movie had very similar experiences.

After visiting Japan, and realizing it's the place that I want to live and spend the rest of my life after college, and now majoring in Japanese, everyone told me to check out this movie. With my love of Japan I rented this movie...I can't believe I waited so long to see this movie. Shortly after I bought the DVD, and will be buying the Blu-Ray when released. It's one of the best movies ever made. All I can say, is that this is a must buy.

Why did I enjoy it?

I didn't feel great afterwards; it wasn't full of explosions or sordid and gratuitous filth;

The reason why I liked it was because it was something I could empaphsize with; that feeling that you're alone despite crowds of smiling "welcoming" people all around you.

It doesn't pretend to have answers; it just illustrates the sour times of life.

saw this for the first time yesterday. It' a sweet, intimate, and gentle film. I'm not the type that cries at films but I had to bite my lip during the last scene. Maybe this film is not for everyone but it's a great experience.
