  • It is so funny hearing Americans trying to pronounce Worcestershire sauce, still the recipe looks quite good, although I wouldn't use fine bread crumbs, but I guess that is a personal preference

  • @kzam90 Olive Oil should not be used for frying, it has a low smoking point (although out of some reason TV chefs haven't heard of that while I actually learned it while becoming a chef), virgin coconut oil or basic Vegetable Oil (Sunflower, Soy, Rapseed etc.). But there is nothing wrong with a bit of Butter. Also the flavour of Olive Oil could easily overpower the delicate flavour the crab has, which Butter or Vegetable Oil won't.

  • a hamburger with a slice of apple is good also but not all the time and certainly nothing to brag over.

  • good crab cakes are one of the toughest things to make so over the years chefs have used less and less batter and breading. So they won't end up bad and they do if you don't cook them right they really are one type of prepared food that is not edible if cooked wrong. They become greasy and the grease is all that is left. But that does not mean to reduce the amount of breading/batter. Just learn how to cook them right. If at first you don't succeed; try and try again!

  • I know that its a new fad. Making crab cakes with nothing but crab. But I think the fad is over with me. Really the batter breading is what makes a crab cake good to me. Honestly why not make hamburgers without a bun or pizza without the toppings. That pure holistic approach does not work for my pallet. It just becomes that naked apple with nothing was a recipe. When I could have apple crisp but I won't because its not the cool thing.

  • Yep.......This is a good Crab Cake...... If you can deep fry it is junk. must figure about 70% crab meat...1/2 claw & 1/2 lump..... you could also use this as a crab stuffing for flounder, lobster ect........ Great Job Chef John.

  • okay don't shoot me but i am poor and made this with the canned lump crab yesterday and it came out fabulous! (had to remember to squeeze out excess water) To add more volume since i had 6 guests i added cut up Portebella mushrooms ugh sooo good! I also used seasoned panko bread crumbs for the outside and some inside. i then made them semi thin to look bigger. Someone was dipping them in cucumber ranch and it was amazing!

  • ok this is what makes me so frustrated. If you purchase a steak, it will cost you (USA-Midwest) anywhere from $#6.99 - $15.99/lb. You purchase one ny strip it will cost you a good $6.79-$8.99 for one ONE! But if you purchase some snow crab it will cost anywhere from $8.99 - $12.99/lb. HOWEVER people will say you are splurging when you buy crab, but they don't thing a single $12.99 steak....is a splurge...what????

  • @librarian5602 in in montreal canada and here fresh crab is 25-30$ a pound. Sometimes it comes on special and we can get it half price but very rarely. Lobster is more affordable.
