@librarian5602 in in montreal canada and here fresh crab is 25-30$ a pound. Sometimes it comes on special and we can get it half price but very rarely. Lobster is more affordable.
I used royal lump crab meat in a can and it worked just fine for me so I don't think u necessarily need fresh from the bay crab but I do admit it is better that way
