i purchased this album at a garage sale when I was 13. I soon became my very favorite . I still have it. I am going to try to find it on disc. Just love every song. It brings back so many great memories.
LOVE Procol Harum's A Whiter Shade of Pale..........however, this version of the song is my all time favorite - the LP REALIZATION IS A MASTERPIECE, Thank You Johnny Rivers.
With out doubt, from the drums and the Hammond to the 'focused emotion' of JR's expression, this has to be the absolute best cover of any song of the sixties! If I only had a dollar for every time my turn table spun that 'Realization' record......
He really does a great job on this except for that one weak falsetto note. The drummer slips a bit but it's not an easy song to pull off right. There's something about it all that works for me.
I've been looking for this version in youtube for years, thank you very much for posting it! I agree with you. Apart from Bach's original theme, this is the best version I've listened to...
procol harums versin is eay better. their singer is much better than johnny rivers and the organ is much better in the old version. I dont se why he even decided to record this version. he takes a good song makes it worse and then tries to take cred for the song.
You do not even know what you are talking about. Johnny Rivers voice is a far better voice and anyhow the music was nicked from a classical source. the arrangement on this is superior to the 'original'. The whole album Realization is the 60s in a nutshell and is one of the greatest albums of any era. So stop winging shut your eyes and drift away.
Saw Johnny Rivers many years ago now in a club in Lakewood, California. What a hughly taltented man! I love this version Johnny covered of Whiter Shade of Pale, such a great song, such memories of days of being very young and a time of incredible music. It seems like a million miles away and a world that is sooooo different in every way now from those days of the 60's.
I had this album -- Am I remembering wrong or is there also a great version of "Hey Joe" on it too? If so PLEASE PLEASE post it-- I used to love it and I think it was Johnny Rivers' version on this album that I liked best!
I agree, Oscar! A wonderful version. Every bit as good - if not better - that Procol's version! Johnny River's voice has always amazed me. Great post, man!

Still have my original Realization album. Was one of my favorite Johnny Rivers albums, and was blown away by his version of Whiter Shade of Pale.

Procol's version is MUCH better - more mystical, more intriguing. That said, Rivers sounds good, too - he's very talented and versatile.
