Shutter Island was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I didn't think it was predictable, and even if you did admit the actors including Mr Dicaprio was amazing. Waiting for Leo's Oscar... its taking too long!
Lol after titanic ALL of us guys hated Di Caprio for titanic, but after Catch Me If You Can, The Aviator, Blood Diamond, Shutter Island, INCEPTION.... yeah, I guess there are many reasons for me to have him on my top 5 favorite actors now.
I think it would have been more Twisty and more scary if they were actually experimenting on human brains in shutter island. that would have shown how amazing people can brain-wash each other and force their mind to accept another identity . I liked to see that Teddy actually exist and Andrew was a name given to him by the doctors .
I actually thought this was a really good movie... in the beginning that is, the ending just totally ruined the movie for me. It was just a HUGE mindfuck.
If if people found the ending obvious, the story told is quite important on a deeper level than "just" some crime solving. The battle between narcotics/"modern psychology" and shutting people away - be it in facilities or in their minds - was quite an important one. I loved the movie for this deeper angle.
the first time i saw this movie i was like wtf at the end i saw it a second time and i was likw owwwwwww such a good movie with the twist at the end just sooo good
i hate it how people always make videos where as soon as they finish what their saying it immediately cuts to the next thing they say, its used for comic effect, so that jokes seem funny when they arent actually funny, some guy started it with videos he made called 'ask a ninja' and it made it more funny, but now everyone does it and its boring. ahhh finally got that off my chest lol :)
For some reason after I saw Fight Club no movie with a personality disorder plot twist has been able to surprise me. I guessed Secret Window's twist after watching less than 1/4 of the movie and this one didn't get passed me either. Tyler Durden just set that bar way too high for the competition.
Complex movie? lol. It was cool until that fucking twist came in. Complete waste of time. I wanted to watch this movie so bad because it really looks like something different, something you've never seen before but then...sigh...*eeerr ur crazy, everything else is fine actually* hated that movie. It wasn't anything i've never seen before, nor was it shocking or unexpected, more like a gang-raped idea that has been used since human beings made use of their minds for the first time.
My girlfriend and I sat down to watch this and since every psychological thriller has to have the 'twist' ending, we immediately started to play the guessing game. I said, 'I bet Leo is the mental patient and this is all just some mindfuck on him.' I dont claim to be any smarter than anyone else out there, and even when I said it I wasnt sure of the mechanics of such a MF, but to guess the ending at the very beginning? It was well shot and acted, but I ruined the whole experience for myself.
this is AAMmazing, i havent seen one of those good stories in a while, and this was just perfect. But what happend the first 5-10 minuts, i was a little late for it on the, hmm, movie box, yes, and i didnt catch that. Thx
whats the point of comparing inception to this movie? do you guys just go around comparing movies starring leonardo de caprio? please take the time to stfu
it was the last quote "is it better to live as a monster or die as a good man..." is what sort of told his psychiatrist he was still sane...and that he just wants to b lobotomized since he probably doesnt want to live with that memory in his head anymore...i mean i wouldnt...like in 'sucker punch'...he just wanted a quiet death...
First of all, this movie made me think way i repeat WAY TO FUCKING MUCH i dont think ive ever thought about something that much Second of all, when he portrayed that creepy old woman, I ... FUCKING .... DIED OF LAUGHTER
I love puzzle movies but this one was too predictable. Figureing out every twist in the movie before it happened just didnt make it enjoyable. I also felt like there were too many incidents to convince the audience as to if he is crazy or not. it wouldn't have been a problem if the clues were a little more 'grayed out' but they just felt too "hes definately sane cause of this" or "he is definately crazy cause of that." but that's just me. I think im the only person who didnt like this movie
DiCaprio has thankfully put that bullshit with the boat far behind him and become one of the best actors of his generation. He commissioned the script for Orphan, which became one of my favs and he did Inception. This film is one of those films I love, a dark thriller which messes with your head. But I didn't like Mystic River, the other Dennis Lehane adaption. This was, however, terrific. Challenging and thought provoking to an extent.
Shutter island was interesting but honestly the ending was quite predictable and the mystery kind of lost itself towards the end and it seemed more like a run around the island with little plot (again towards the end), it was interesting at the beginning but it ends out just average
that doesn't make any sense. Char actors are the ones that are good at acting. They can actually MAKE their character. Non char actors suck ass. Like keanu reeves. he's bill and ted in EVERY single movie, up to matrix and now he's neo in every movie. nicolas cage is not a char actor, which is why so many people do not like him. Character acting is WHAT actors should do.
Everybody says it was mindfuck and all that. i saw it, i understood it perfectly, and i thought it was an amazing film. Far better than Inception too IMO, which was complex just for the sake of complexity. You can't substitute compexity with a good story
@Northernmight you can't understand it perfectly, unless you just accept that the story lets the watcher interpret it their own way. there is no clear evidence of teddy being sane or insane, and a huge list of points for either side of the argument. the directors/writers intended it this way.
@pwwwnd01 Yeah I agree with that even after reading the book it still could go either way and the book had a shit load more stuff going on for him being insane or not personally I like to think he's not to me that's the better ending but that's just my opinion.
@Northernmight i don't think that a mindfuck is defined by a movie that you can't understand. I think it's a movie that makes you think one thing when the final conclusion is the exact opposite and most unpredictable thing you can (probably not) imagine.
@Northernmight im sorry but i disagree shutter island is good but no not btr not even as good as inception. inception wasnt complex for the sake of being complex it was the way they the movie worked and it worked perfectly. i bet that christopher nolan didnt even try to make the film complex its just the only way he could make it he prob even dumbed it down for people like you who do nothing but bitch about a perfect movie. also the story was amazing and it wasnt substituted
@Northernmight While I think both were very good, I think I like Inception more. Both had great performances and writing, but I think Inception was a bit more entertaining and original. Both movies phenomenal atmosphere and great setup, but I think Inception was much less predictable. I think I just enjoy Inception more because of its sheer ambition. Both great movies, but Inception is definitely one of my favorites.
Shutter Island had a story that had me completely immersed. The twist near the end was amazing. It really makes you think. Now as for the Inception vs Shutter Island argument, these are both extremely similar movies. Leonardo's role in both these movies are nearly identical, but I enjoyed him more in Shutter Island. In terms of acting overall, Inception is slightly ahead. Inception didn't really have to much of a twist, where as Shutter Island had a huge twist. I prefer Shutter Island's ending.
does this movie have any random sex scenes in it? I'm just asking because normally with 'horror' or 'almost-horror' kinds of movies, they throw in random sex scenes -.-
Funny,I figured out "the twist" while the opening credits were rolling. I thought of the most obvious scenario, and was actually kinda shocked I was right.
@TigerWarrior78 Yeah. I was just thinking about the different twists and I thought of that one and as the movie went on,it kinda made more sense. It was the same with THE ORPHAN. I guessed it half way through. Of course,I have guessed about other movies and been dead wrong,so it's not like I have E.S.P. or anything! THE SIXTH SENSE was another one I got before I even saw it. It just seemed obvious.
now this is one epic scorsese masterpiece. i loved this movie. in fact in some ways i think it's better than inception. it makes you think more. and i think teddy daniels is crazy.
I just saw this movie finally yesterday.. and this is only the 2nd time in History that I don't fully agree with Jeremy.. I think the movie was even better than he made it out to be..
I loved Shutter Island. It was tragic but everything came together at the end. At first I was confused as to what had happened, but then I realized that he knew he was crazy and didn't want to live as a monster anymore. Inception was amazing too. Both of them make you think and have you in wonder the entire time.
I hated the ending because I wasn't sure if he actually was crazy or if his theory was true and they were actually implanting thoughts into the people's brains...
DiCaprio was insane in this movie. Nothing the doctors could do would make him remember the important seen (NO SPOILERS P:), so we know it's always been in his head. He just made up an alias to reduce the pain of his past. In the end, because the experiments on him failed, to labotamy took place.
lol, i really use to hate DiCaprio after titanic, he was such a faggot, i was i little kid back then too, but after the departed, i started liking him, and now after inception and shutter island he is one of my favorite actors
@misty8385 i totes agree. i thought it was a bit long too and the beginning dragged on. but the last hour was good, even though i figured out that leo was probably the crazy one all along.
@lovelyspringweather The acting was great! But there was two choices either he was mad or the people that ran the Hospital were up to no good.
I have seen similar done before in a film with Ray Liotta.... I cannot remember the name of the film but I think it was good - although a bit on the nasty side.
So you knew Teddy's partner was really his doctor and you knew he was really a patient at Ashecliffe and you knew the patients he was questioning were a part of an elaborate plan constructed by Dr. Cawley to get him to remember killing his wife? No offense but I think you're lying.
All who were expecting a horror wouldve been disappointed, all who were expecting a fun creepy movie, like me, wouldve been amazed. in other words, i loved it.
im always confused about this movie just because there are two big twists at the end of the movie and everybody says they saw the last twist but it makes me wonder if they saw the first one and not the last because the last twist made it pretty kool in my opinion
@WatsDaWurd Definately. Shutter Island was more of a mindf*ck though BUT!! Inception was WAYYY more epic.
Leonardo Dicaprio I'm not gay but you totally mindf*cked me in 2 movies this year and I liked it. BTW I really liked Titanic and never hated Dicaprio cause well I was only 6 when I saw Titanic for the first time in theaters(I remember my mom though covering my eyes while he was painting rose while nude).
This is the first and only movie I have ever left early. I found everything in this movie boring and predictable. I guessed the ending just from the trailer. The thing that really bothered me about this movie is how unsubtle and obnoxious it was. It seemed to beat you over the head with the idea that there is a mystery to be solved. I might've enjoyed it if it was 30-40 minutes short, and this is coming from a guy who likes long movies.
@yaroslav64 lol nobody gives a shit about your nigger opinion the movie was fucking awesome and its pretty much a master piece . and i dunt believe that you guessed the ending from the trailer. die in a fire jewfag
LMAO so you are implying that I am black jewish homosexual? I am not. I am sorry that my opinion of this movie offended you so deeply you decided to portray me as all the minorities you apparently despise. Good job taking something completely unrelated to you personal. Have a nice day you hate-mongering piece of shit.
That shot of the light house at the end made my brain very very angry.

I hated the ending because I wasn't sure if he actually was crazy or if his theory was true and they were actually implanting thoughts into the people's brains...

@PerfectParasite it's ambiguous. You choose!

DiCaprio was insane in this movie. Nothing the doctors could do would make him remember the important seen (NO SPOILERS P:), so we know it's always been in his head. He just made up an alias to reduce the pain of his past. In the end, because the experiments on him failed, to labotamy took place.
Woddershot 1 year ago
lol, i really use to hate DiCaprio after titanic, he was such a faggot, i was i little kid back then too, but after the departed, i started liking him, and now after inception and shutter island he is one of my favorite actors
MKDgangster 1 year ago
Agreed, an A+ movie if they had just stayed with the suspense government conspiracy plot, in the end I hated this movie.

I thought the film was disappointing as it was so obvious what was going on.
misty8385 1 year ago
@misty8385 i totes agree. i thought it was a bit long too and the beginning dragged on. but the last hour was good, even though i figured out that leo was probably the crazy one all along.
lovelyspringweather 1 year ago
@lovelyspringweather The acting was great! But there was two choices either he was mad or the people that ran the Hospital were up to no good.
I have seen similar done before in a film with Ray Liotta.... I cannot remember the name of the film but I think it was good - although a bit on the nasty side.
misty8385 1 year ago
@misty8385 wow, this is soooo late, but the movie is "Identity"

So you knew Teddy's partner was really his doctor and you knew he was really a patient at Ashecliffe and you knew the patients he was questioning were a part of an elaborate plan constructed by Dr. Cawley to get him to remember killing his wife? No offense but I think you're lying.

I so agreed... I hated the fuck out of DiCaprio.. But since Blood Diamond I really enjoy his stuff..

It was the kind of movie that you have to look up on wikipedia after you watch it because it gets very confusing.

im always confused about this movie just because there are two big twists at the end of the movie and everybody says they saw the last twist but it makes me wonder if they saw the first one and not the last because the last twist made it pretty kool in my opinion

this movie was very predictable for me. i saw the trailer and guessed the ending at that very second.

I might've enjoyed it if it was 30-40 minutes short, and this is coming from a guy who likes long movies.
yaroslav64 1 year ago
@yaroslav64 lol nobody gives a shit about your nigger opinion the movie was fucking awesome and its pretty much a master piece . and i dunt believe that you guessed the ending from the trailer. die in a fire jewfag

LMAO so you are implying that I am black jewish homosexual? I am not. I am sorry that my opinion of this movie offended you so deeply you decided to portray me as all the minorities you apparently despise. Good job taking something completely unrelated to you personal. Have a nice day you hate-mongering piece of shit.
