For all the idiots asking where you put in the discs use your damn heads netbook means small compact friendly internet PC for mobility not a real complete size laptop its small no room for a cd-dvd-rw drive assholes
Asus is doing great... it really shouldn't go head-to-head with the air. It's price point is the key factor. I would rather have a sturdy portable notebook with 7.5+ battery and spend the money that would be better invested on a upgraded desktop. Air is just a bit too frivolous and flashy for the basic needs of a ultra portable.
It's just not cost effective and the sexyness does not justify the bloated starting price... almost 4 netbooks for the price of an air.

sleek?! lol! im sorry, but have you seen a macbook? oh! or even an ibook g3 from 1999 back when pc laptops were still 3" thick! this is kind of funny, considering they fit a 1.86 ghz core2dou, 2 gb ram, 5 hour battery life, and the 120 gb ssd in a platform that is WAY thinner, has a brilliant led display, a fullsize keyboard, and a HUGE trackpad. too expensive for you? well, you get what you pay for... oh, and did i mention 256 mb nvidia graphics, and aluminum unibody? plus its just so pretty.
we're talking NETBOOKS which are 10" screens and smaller so the Air isn't in the same group. no one is arguing that the Air isn't nice, but i'd rather carry my Lenovo S9 then an Air or my Macbook Pro.
ponder this, you could buy an S9/S10 or Eee PC and load Leopard on it all for less then 500.
...and i've got 2 quad 8 cores worth more then 40k each, so money obviously isn't and issue.
Most of us aren't made of money, and if I want something powerful, I'll build a nice desktop with a beastly video card. I've never understood the point of dropping a grand or more on a notebook which will probably never be used for anything more demanding than surfing the web, checking emails, and word processing for about 99% of people. Also a powerful CPU like a Core 2 is wasted unless you have a good GPU to back it up. For me, netbooks like the eee are a godsend.
This is the best looking netbook out in my opinion, I really dislike flashy products so this couldnt be more perfect, I wonder though, do you think that this netbook will allow the option for a 30-60gb ssd instead of the 160gb? Also does this have the 6cell battery?
Looks great, I checked a lot photos, I'm also concerned about battery life. I'm expecting one I bought from Amazon, and I made some investigations, they say that it will not have more than 2 cell battery, but you should take mAh into consideration, cause cells could be different size. For instance 1002HA 2-cell battery is 4200mAh, but 1000H 6-cell battery is 6600mAh, so actually it's not that "3 times less"
"it's just a prototype right now, it won't turn on" (?!). But we are, like, three weeks later now, and the machine can be bought from at least one online store, so shouldn't you have posted a new material showing people what they really need to see? For we do not buy note-/netbooks because of their looks, and, since we are not illiterate, we can read the product description on a zillion sites ourselves.
Yet it still has that shrunken right shift key. Still hasn't gotten a memory card reader. The Aspire One has also had models with 160gb hard drives for a while now.
Nothing that tragic. Each manufacturer makes keyboards which are nothing like the competition's. The one you get used to is the best (for you). If you bought an eee PC, you'd get used to its keyboard, too.
I never take the card out of my camera. Many others don't, either. To a significant segment of the population, then, a card reader is useless. Asus must have thought this segment is very large.
The large HDD, which they also had before, makes using a card for extra storage ridiculous, too.
I find the AC plug at the back sort of convenient (how often do I plug my portable into the wall?), though at times I would definitely be happier if that plug were on either one side or the other.
But the LAN port at the back??
Maybe - maybe so, maybe -, if this was designed primarily for (outdoor) wireless use.
Why would a company keep features everyone says they're bad is an old story. Most likely, they do not read comments for feedback AND do not want to change (= spend money to modify) the production line.

i believe 2gb is the max.

why would u need 4 gb? i think it can only take 1 stick of ram, and architecture is 32 bit and not able to get 64 bit
megamanxu 2 years ago
4 GB are senseless in combination with only 1.6 GHz.
And 2 GB are maximum.

Sorry, but for a grand you can easily pick up a laptop that rivals a beastly desktop PC.
My Acer Aspire 6930g, for instance, 4 gig RAM, 9600 GT 512mb, bluray, nearly 19" widescreen, etc etc etc...
£700... enough money left to build a cheap ass gaming rig.

Thank You, Joanna, but imho it's absolutly stupid to place ports, especially the most important port (AC), on the backside of a LAP(!!!)top!
And why is Asus using the bad keyboard of the 1000H? Is it that good? No, we all know this...
So ASUS: why, why, why???
