Man as far as I know we don't sell that shit anymore here (Fosters). It was the 'face' of Australian beers though in movies like Crocodile Dundee but come on - that stuff is yucky. We don't really have a name for beer here unless you just say 'booze'. It also depends on which beer the person in question likes. You may find a person who prefers VB and they will say it's Australian for beer. Others will say XXXX is Australian for beer. I say who gives a fuck? VB, XXXX - I don't care I drink both.

All been said and done, I'd drink a Fosters any day over a VB or XXXX Gold, the later being extra vile. Boags, Carlton and Swan Draught are the better of the standard Aussie Lagers. Emu Bitter is actually a Bitter Lager unlike Victoria Bitter and if I choose to slum it then I'll drink Emu Export.

Coopers is another story all together. Coopers unique thick bready Ales are the closest thing to an identifiable Australian Beer style out there (well to be proud of). More points again for it affordability. As for Standard Aussie Lagers, Boags Draught is clearly the best in quality. After that your into Premium (real, not Crown Lager) and Boutique Brewery territory where the real champs are like Little Creatures, Murrays, Grand Ridge, Colonial, Matilda Bay, James Squire, Redoak, Feral etc.

Foster is just another mass produced standard range skunky tasting, cabbage smelling Australian Lager. It gets such a poor rap because it like it's sister brew "Crown Lager" (whom many suspect is actually exported as Fosters) are the only Australian beers advertised under such outlandishly bold claims. Fosters isn't really that different to the likes of VB, Toohey New, Swan Daught, West End Draught, XXXX Bitter, Emu Export, Carlton Draught etc. All are in the cheaper standard range bracket.

I actually don't mind fosters. I only tried it once but it's definitely better than most Australian beers.

Coopers is easily the best of those he tried but the best Australian beers are James Squire, Little Creatures and other micro-brews.

Those people were right about how nobody here drinks Fosters, but the only half decent Australian beer you tried was the Coopers. The others are all mass produced swill for the unwashed, unsophisticated masses.

For a real Australian beer, you have to try some of the microbrews. Try some James Squires, Matilda Bay, or Little Creatures. There are several varieties of each. Microbrews are where the REAL Australian beer is.
