The chamber choir I was in when I was in high school sang this piece. Let me just say, their interpretation of this was so beautiful. Our choir struggled so much to learn this for our competition. Note, it was a choir of 45.
They are alright, and I am not mocking them, but it definitely needs more work. The sopranos, for example, are singing G-A in the opening melody instead of the written F#-G on "ever." It is an acceptable mistake while sight-reading, but utterly unacceptable in performance.
@lexithethespian Lexi. You are fantastic. Just saying. And Wowzers Mcgiwzers is now officially my favorite thing to say ever. Also, this dude sounds to me like a bit of a pretentious douche. And a snob. Notice the usage of the phrase "utterly unacceptable." Clearly indicates validity within my accusation. Just saying.
I am in A'Capella at East this year and we are singing this piece again for the 50 year celebration in a few months. I just wanted to say how much it and the legacy of you guys singing it is still loved in that choir room today and how incredibly cool it is to be hear this and hear you guys talk about it
I was in the group that debuted this piece...what an unbelievable experience it is to work with Eric. His music is GREAT, but I think any of us that have worked with him would say he is an even better conductor. He can do things for a group that I never thought could have been done. So good, him and this piece.
dearibelieve - its Ana from A'Cappella! haha! Wow thats weird, I came on here randomly searching for this song and just happened to read your comment about us debuting this for Eric Barnum. I obviously can't tell who you are from the user name so just let me know. We were so fortunate for him to have chosen us to be the first to sing it, and personally work with him even! Wow I really miss it now...lol
This song was written by Barnum for my high school choir!! In the music it says written for the Duluth East A'Cappella choir. He even came and worked with us! It was amazing!

Nope, why?

I had rather hoped they were only sight-reading...

so you're going to mock them based on the sound quality of the recording?
Also, contra tenor...you can't beat it :D
kudasango 2 years ago
No. They're looking at their sheet music cause it helps.
