  • wondering how the new trackpad works. i'll be getting my new 13 inch macbook pro hopefully in a few days after i get paid.

  • Comment removed

  • I take that back. Its for anyone :D

  • 6:00 rofl

  • well, different country has different standard of living.

In my country, Malaysia. A laptop cost RM2500 which is the same as monthly income as a fresh engineer.

In country like Canada, a laptop cost 500 dollar and yet the fresh engineer income can be range from 2500 to 3000 dollar.

    you see what I mean.

    We need pirated softwares..

  • @whotookmynickkokokai - No. We need the extintion of money.

  • well the thing is, apple trusts you.

iwork, ilife (granted u get it from the right sources, such as ur friend or so) there is no activation or serial.

so basically, instead of circumventing, it just makes u feel like an ass when ur pirating

  • @whotookmynickkokokai you can have pirated software on your mac.

  • thanks for the vids i was consideering getting one, and now i think i will. my friend has macbook last generation, and i think its great. but this one seems so much cooler

  • that was a cool bye!

  • So can copy and paste be used with the right click on the track pad?

  • yes

  • i used a new mb wen they first came out and didnt even notice it didnt have any buttons lol im a pc guy but am changing to mac

  • whoo

    i use mac

  • what all softwares are included with the macbook aluminum 2.0 ghz?

  • Do you recommend getting this computer?

  • Give me!!! lol

  • Hang on - a 'Tap to Click' option? Was that always there? Then what's all the people's fuss about not being able to adjust to the new trackpad, if you don't even need to depress the button?

  • LOL yes, though it should be a pain for those used to forcing their finger down to touch click as the click option maybe disorientating.

Though you should adapt fine within time.

A person i know uses the touch click and then the button click in one motion for double clicking.

  • Nice move, though I'd find that a bit fiddly myself.

But just to clarify, I was addressing the main concern that people would find it tough to get the pad to physically click down. I don't think many find the buttonless pressing aspect itself that disorienting given how quickly everyone's taken to the iPhone.

  • it waas always there

  • Hmm, I've never needed to use that. Still, if people don't like the new all-button design, then it's obviously no big deal.

  • cool video... i just ordered mine! Can't wait to get it!

  • how do u make tht little think come up when you click PLEASE REPLY!!!

  • Can u tap instead of pressing?

  • Yes.

  • of course

  • yea, u can do that on oldmacbooks2

  • What software or whatever do you use to record video of the screen. Please respond

  • i think he was using "screen flow" to record video of his macbook screen

  • He was using Screenium.

  • uses screenium

  • u look like my science teacher

  • byyyyye

    lol.

    thanks

  • can you use a normal pc mouse to a macbook or do you have to get a mac mouse fpr the laptop?

  • yup

  • Thanks Very Much Dude! Now i can show all my friends what's so Awesome about the new MacBook.

i got this computer soon after it came out....AWESOME!!

  • hi i am thinking of getting the macbook pro 17"

im 15 and nether used a mac in my life would you recomend that i should get one or a alianware?

  • Get the 17 inch Macbook Pro if you like a big screen on a laptop.

  • wow the rotation feature of 3:55 is so great. good job apple!

  • hi jon,

    nice review,

bro wanna know a fact if mac recognizes double click like windows, like currently its enabled with single click option,

    do we hav such option?

  • do you go to LSSU?

  • wow, nice video. this is what i'm talking about.

John please make more videos like this about the new mac, thanks

  • Should I but this Macbook, or the MacBook Air? I'd be using it for High School, and for my music (im a musician, so the garage band would be ideal) how thin is the Macbook? which would be better for me?

    Thanks, rock on, I.K.S.A

  • You're gonna want the macbook. Its less than an inch thick, the screens are the same size, its much faster, and you get the cd-rom drive.

  • Get the macbook btw, garage band is really shit, you're gunna want reason or logic or protools.

  • ya i think so to

  • man u should work for apple, at least in one of their stores.

  • you can go into system preferances of w/e its called and make the right side of the trackpad a right click

  • john the control panel for is windows, on a mac it's system preferences, a lot of switchers make the mistake though

  • wow that laptop is sick i have the iMac im getting the macbook soon though school wise. :)

  • why did you respond to your own comment

  • the screen part of the macbook is thinner than the nano

  • i like the new trackpad much better its much more easier to use i love my macbook

  • i love my macbook too

  • wtf....

  • what

  • so when you tap to click, do you have to actually click the trackpad or just tap it?

  • both

  • you can do both but you have to set it as tap to click.

  • where did u get that circle which pops up when u click? a pointer or something

  • arrgh want the macbook so bad, but dont have enough money. maybe i'll ge one in 5 month (:

  • hey man, I love your videos. You do a great job and don't worry about those people that post bad comments... but im hopefully getting my macbook SOOON i get paid tomorrow and hopei have enough money :) - Attila Hajzer -

  • shut the hell up ur the gay1 not Jon

  • Thanks for the review. I am getting one in a few weeks!

  • im in love. i cant wait to get one friday!!

  • good review, better than the original

  • what soft ware did you use 4 just the screen

  • thanks jon!

sometimes i think i love you haha.

i've been trying to get a straight answer

on the tap to click answer for a while.

    <34534

  • Using a trackpad is generally a pain in the backside on most laptops, but it's nice to see that Apple really seem to care in this area. I love all the little intuitive yet really simple if you think about it ideas they implement on them. It really makes life that much less stressful when using it for prolongd periods of time.

  • Thanks for that Jon, very useful.

I am at the end of my tether with PC's and Windows and am seriously considering selling my (only 9 months old) Vaio SZ (£1549) and getting a 13" Macbook (£929).

Videos like this are very informative and instructional for people new to Macs like myself.

  • oh and another tihng...2 actually

how much memory can the macbook take??because i saw in the site that it says 320 GB, but many people told me it could only take 250...so is it possible to put 320 GB and 4 GB RAM??

and another thing...do the speakers consume a lot of battery life if you listen a lot of music??

  • the original output of the macbook memory is 320 but once you open it and turn it on the company has "add-ons" installed which take up the rest of the GB which leads it to be 250 when you first get it.

  • oooh ok...but in the pro is it possible to actually use 320??or is it the same thing?

  • Memory is RAM, storage is hard drives, flash drives, optical media... basically anything that's "permanent" (in " because you can delete it too!). Anyway, you can get a 320GB hard drive in them, but drives ALWAYS come out smaller when formatted and seeing as they install a fair amount of apps and the OS itself onto it you'll have less free space than that 320. They can take any 2.5" laptop drives really, but the more space and faster speed the more battery power is needed to turn it.

  • If you plan to use more than the 320GB then I'd invest in a nice external drive, either a FireWire 800 (if you get the MacBook pro) or a USB one if it's just the normal MacBook as they removed FireWire from these models for some reason, at least in the current revision. Customer demand for it may make them reintroduce it, so if you can wait a little longer untill January I would, just to be sure. Apple announce new things at MacWorld in early Jan each year so most hold out untill after that.

  • hey great video very comprehensive

but many people are saying that this trackpad is too loud...but does it REALLY bother or its just as a normal clicking sound??

  • hey man, great review, you give the only consistently good reviews on youtube!!

Was just wondering if the trackpad still has the the tap-to-click option, the button seems a bit noisy is all if you have to click it all the time.

  • shut up you eejit monkeypeas, if you actually watched the video you would see he shows you the option is still available!! bloody stupid youtube commenters... and your ugly

  • I meant you CAN'T use a mouse on your lap or in bed or on a plane... defeats the whole point of having an all-in-one mobile laptop. PC's don't have trackpads??? Dang!

  • You could run Windows natively on the Mac since 2006, when they switched to Intel processors (still under OS X 10.4 Tiger). Has nothing to do with Leopard. Also, you could run it as a simulation on earlier Power PC Macs. You can boot up in Boot Camp or use Parallels or Fusion. I will never need Windows... plenty of apps out there for Mac, more than I can use. And yes, the trackpad is standard. You don't need a mouse & should learn to use it. You can use a mouse on your lap or on a plane.

  • ah, one last thing. is anyone thats owning this laptop having troubles with hitting the trackpad as they type~ it is rather large to miss~

  • one thing how much did you cost the macbook that you use in the video (whit taxes)

  • the only problem is if you are left handed and you use your mouse of the right hand side. with this trackpad left handed people might have to get use to using their left hand to navigate instead of your right.

to cut it short, if you are multi-handed then it can take a day to get use to the change

  • im left handed in a right person's world; i write with my left hand, but for everything else i use my right hnd. am i a retarded ambidextrous?

  • no your not, am left handed aswell, and with the multi-touch trackpad i use my left hand instead of my right. It takes getting use to. for me anyway and some others that i know.

  • exposè is now quick and smooth with nvidia 9400m? With my macbook and poor intel x3100 its not very smooth and with an external monitor (22 inch) is very slow.

  • who cares! he said bye ohhhhh no!!!

  • Does he look like he cares ?

  • k, the end ruined the video

  • wow, i need a new macbook :(

  • how do you get that kind of ripple effect after you click??

  • Excellent, thanks for the quick demo.

  • :D 4 fingers swipe up clears the desktop... now that i can use :P

  • Hmm.. nice review.

i got a question though.. it seems like your pressing down pretty hard on the pad? is it hard?

  • if apple gave me this a month earlier i would have bought this one :S now im stuck with a sony vaio fw11m

  • i love this macbook....but i have just one question....kinda silly xD

is it possible to use Windows on it??like Windows Vista or Windows XP??

or u can just use Mac??

if you can, can you use it normally as any other software??

  • yeh, you can use it as a normal windows with "boot camp". google it ;P

  • Yes you can actually install Windows natively on it just like you would on any other PC. Its a new feature in Leopard called Boot Camp, and it will create a separate partition to run any version of Windows.

So now theres really no reason to not buy a Mac, you get both options. And since these new Macbooks have a really powerful Nvidia chipset, you can even play games on Windows and have good performance, even the base low end model has this Nvidia chipset.

  • The trackpad isn't coated in a "plasticy material". It's actually etched glass, which allows your fingers to glide right across the surface.

  • hey,

i switched to the new macbook, i am not a big fan of the new trackpad... anyways i downloaded vista on it, so my question is, is there a way to play around with the settings of the trackpad on vista

  • for the clicking, how does it recognize it? Does the track pad press down, or is it pressure sensitive. If it is pressure sensitive, can you accidentally press when just scrolling or typing.

  • watch the damn video!!!!

  • I did, but you cannot see if the track pad is moving. for example, the mighty mouse has side buttons that are touch sensitive. They do not really move but make a clicking sound. I hope that clarifies my question to you ;)

  • No, it is a big button. It physically clicks down.

  • Thank you very much.

  • yw.

  • Best notebook ever.

  • great video, i'm definitely going to buy a macbook now! Also, you can allocate an area on the trackpad for right click (one finger). I don't think you mentioned this.

  • Which is more good? Apple or HP? I'm having hard time to choose between the two. I don't know what to buy..

  • 1 vote for Apple! :) I love my MacBook!

  • Apple, HP is so commercial and unoriginal

  • The Exposé feature sounds nice. <3

  • What's the difference between Dragging and Drag Lock?

  • Wow, I was curious about how this would work, and slightly skeptical, but it seems wonderful.

and luerexbob, he probably used a screen recorder program, like CamStudio or HyperCam.

    [:

  • why do u have all the options turned off

  • How did he film the system preferences bit

  • Hey man, thanks a lot for your patience and detail you put on this nice and informative video. I was lucky enough that the Apple retailer told me to wait until the new Mac Book pro comes out..I was about to order the old one! I can't wait to get it as soon as possible

  • man i can't wait to get my macbook. i have vista right now and it sucks SO bad. Im pretty sure im gonna chuck my HP out the window when this baby get in my hands. Awesome video btw!

  • AAHH i bought the old macbook 1 week before this came out

  • Sometimes they let you upgrade, so ask Apple about that.

  • thx but i live in Australia where theres no apple stores

  • there are 3 apple stores in aus.

  • thers one opening in sydney soon

  • thx but i live in Perth which is the other side of australia

  • Yeah, there's an Apple Store in Sydney

  • so did i....but i still love my macbook pro although just to say i have the "new one" would have been nice too...

  • that is so cool. super helpful. im now definately getting one =D

  • thank you for your videos. I liked it. One thing I don't: the "hey guys" welcome.. please loose it :)

you got my 5 stars vote

  • thanks for this very informative video of the trackpad. its revolutionary.

  • guess this is gonna be my first laptop =)

  • the trackpad is very nice and its gestures are very useful.

  • wow... that was actually good

  • sold.

  • hey thanks for the review, helped make a decision ;-)

  • does the right click thing work in vista?

  • According to his Vista video it's a 3 finger gesture but it works.

  • only in vista

  • Hey thank you for the videos.

  • Wow the click pad/ track pad has a bigger glass screen than your iPhone/my iPod touch.

  • lol my dell trackpad can barely fit 4 fingers on it

  • yer same with mine really annoying how you have to keep dragging ur finger back and forth

  • im saving up for the $1300 model and ive calculated that i'll finally own it around boxing day. Can't wait!

  • "Byyyyyeee!" Haha legend - great vid, Jon!

  • For me is so Interesting about that you can click everywhere in trackpad. Nice video.

  • u g2 be kidding me i just got the maxed out macbook pro a month ago i feel like a total idoit right now..

  • ive heard some people have been able to exchange there macbook & macbook pros that were purchased under 30 days ago. I always thought it was under 14 days for apple but I could be wrong

  • i was at the apple store today and 2 people traded in their first gen macbooks for the new second gen ones. so yes you can.

  • you have to pay a restocking fee

  • so did i, we're on the same boat...

  • I just don't like the black key's silver would have so much better. What about the speakers, where are they ? Bet they don't sound as good as the 'old' macbook which were on the back ?

  • i think the expose option is the best!

  • lol here, ill just slip my BRAND NEW iphone 3g in the shot - as a size comparison. lol (just kidding!)

i really want one of these macbooks, but im BROKE!! and im only 14. =[

  • he was filming with the flip mino camcorder.

  • Question-

is there a usb to firewire adapter for the lack of firewire?

  • can you upgrade the ram from ddr2 to ddr3 from the previous version of the macbook pro

  • all macbook pros now come WITH ddr3 ram. No more ddr2

  • no i ment i have a macbook pro with ddr2 and i was wondering if i can upgrade to ddr3
