@pedsay you need a multi channel interface. If your recording drums look into the M Audio Profire 2626, M Audio Fast Track Ultra8R, Echo Audiofire, Mackie Onyx Blackjack, Presonus Digimax d8, Focusrite Liquid Saffire Pro 56,
Hello I've only just began getting into recording and i was wanting to know, can Logic pro slow down actual songs, as in can you put a random song in and cut apart/change the tempo of songs.
I was also wondering what you would use to cut up a dvd part to repeat/slow down things.
thats just a main thing i want to do in my recording for my own reasons :)
does this only work for like drum sounds or something because i did exactly what you did but with a guitar track and it just made it silent when i play it back
You can use this to isolate vocals only if you have a instrumental version, but exaxt the same song. These are often available, search for karaoke-versions.
Or somtimes there is a piece in a track whithout vocals. If the music is axactly the same as the piece whith focals, you can split them, and put them on 2 different tracks. They must start exactly at the same moment. This is the same whit 2 versions, original and instrumental. Now just invert the phase of one of the tracks and your done.
@LordHines420 It is supposed to sound better with the phase reversal ON, on the track which he applied it to. Phase cancellation occurs when the sounds from a source, such as a snare drum, are hitting the mics at separate times. Reversing the phase on one of the mics/tracks, helps to keep this cancellation issue to a minimum
It should. I don't have Pro Tools yet so I don't know where it's at but it should definitely have a phase reverse plug in. It might even be on the channel strip with the symbol of a circle with a line going through it.
Logic Studio features a phase reversal and also 180 degree positioning, its a plugin called Direction Mixer and you have to put it in phase reverse preset. I highly recommend Logic Studio for it is of the hook. For more high end thinking get little labs ibp tool for 360 degree twisting possible. Make good music.
If you cannot phase reverse in Logic express then I'll eat my couch :p I mean of course you can every sequencer has a gain plug in and must be able to phase invert. You can also do it for parts of the audiofiles in the sample editor. FACTORY --> INVERT
If you have more one mic close to another mic recording the same source than you'll most likely end up with phase issues. You want to listen for canceled frequencies and whooshy sounds. Sometimes its really obvious when lots of frequencies are being canceled out and then other times it's not so obvious when things are just slightly out of phase.

Glad it helped. It took me a long time to find it. I wish they would've actually made a plugin named Phase Reverse. It sure would've made it a lot easier to find.
i actually used it today i did some recordings and used it on the snares, bass drums and guitars works perfect ya it would've been way easier to make a plugin lol maybe in the future on logic pro 9 or something haha... keep up these tips i like them a lot new improvement i love ur channel u guys give the greatest recording tips and tricks on the web!
THANK YOU GOOD SIR.
I always wondered why my snare sounded like shit, i thought it was just my bottom mic.

Say you are micing an acoustic guitar with three condensers, and the mics are out of pphase, do you invert 2 mics or 1?
blahblah55455 2 years ago
Only reverse the phase of one of the mics.
