  • What did you do in order to prevent the pedals from rotating when the motor is running?

  • I could never get my 10 speed to shift that smooth.

  • this can't be healthy for a freewheel...

  • Are the rear gears useful with only 250W motor?

  • Very much so, I have worn out a couple of chains and a rear cassette so far. But as I said before normal running amps suggest the motor is nearer a 350watt one..

  • I have to agree with you, I have both a Cyclone and a Wisper, and I like riding the Cyclone much more. However, the Wisper would be better if you were commuting as they get further to a battery. My 500W Cyclone will sit at 40km/hr easily and over 55km/hr with a tail wind. The good thing with the Cyclone's drive system is that when you get to the motors max speed, you can shift up another gear and use the boost again. A hub motor can't do that.

  • what if you put the hub motor and the cyclone on at the same time? ;)

  • @sona11111111

Tried that - and needs a front wheel hub not rear as mine was and would probably make you a 2 wheel drive bike, but not sure how it would turn corners!!

  • the gear ratio is only 2.5 right???? how can that be ?

  • any problem with your Cyclone 250watt until now? what speed do you get with Cyclone 250watt - 10A24V without pedal?

  • Still going, only issues I have had is with the chain stretching and a couple of rear cogs needing replacement (due to chain). Speed on flat without pedalling in top gear is around 20MPH

  • Swuaheety!!

  • Hi Gary, Neat toy! What particular controller and charger do you use for the LIFEPO4 battery?

  • Hi, the LifePo4 has BMS fitted so I can use my own charger which is a 24 to 30 volt 5Ah din rail mounted one I found on ebay. I have set it to 28 volts. The bike controller is part of the cyclone kit and actually fitted inside the motor, makes for a neat install!

  • hey i just recently got a 500w cyclone kit, but its wasting alot! of power when riding it runs out in less than 5km with a 10ah li-ion batt! Yeh the max speed i can get on it is about 30km/h. How fast does your 250w go? Also what rpm are you getting with your cyclone motor? mine says its 2500rpm reduced to 300rpm!

  • I think the 500w drives a dual crank, if this is correct you will get RPM x crank size x wheel size. My 250w drives through the gears, and I have a 8 gear setup. The max speed I have had on the flat motor only was 20 ish MPH in top gear. As to the batt I had 2x12v 7AH lead acid batts that where good for 5 miles on batt only. I now have a LIFEPO4 10Ah batt and got tied and cold trying to run it flat. I recon it is good for 25+ miles also the speed has increased to 22 with the higher voltage

  • 10 ah cell and 500w motor may be a bit hard on the cells giving them a short life. you shuold be ok if you bare this in mind and peddle off on starts and used the motor to assist.

  • They will not all be the same, but mine had a loop of wire (blue) that came out of the controller and re entered and I cut the loop in the thinking if I was wrong I could just re loop it later. That worked for mine....

  • i hhave a blue wire loop aswell but the thing is it was detached, so i attached it back but nothings changed but i think it gave a lil more torque. But i found out that it was 120 degrees unplug and 60 degrees plugged for the hall effect sensors. Which i have no idea wat it is.

  • what do you look for in the controller for the speed limiter?? How do u know what it looks like?

  • thanks for reply, just posted questions to another of your vids not realising, same fella!

Did you take pics when you put the kit together?

  • I just seem to enjoy the Cyclone more. On paper the Wisper should have been the better bike but I think the Cyclone kit with the Halfords bike just makes a better balanced bike and it is more enjoyable to ride. You have to work at the gears and when you get it right you just seem to fly,as opposed to the Wisper which seemed heavy, was under geared for fast downhill or long straights where you just want to pedal and enjoy the ride. I suspect the hub motor was adding resistance over 20mph.

  • so which do you prefer?

  • As too the Lycra wearing cyclists, they are always covered in sweat and look like they are about to have a heart attack, as apposed us E-Bikers who are smiling and in my case usually pedalling backwards as they go past (the look turns to constipated when the penny drops). And then catch them up at the next hill and smile and wave every time they look back. I can usually average 18.6 mph and hit 32.4 with a favourable tailwind and a bit of a hill, any that can pass me deserve to be in front....

  • No, the same as a normal SRAM 16 speed, just with a larger single crank 52 tooth cog (over the original 48/34 tooth combo). I did have to get a longer chain though but again just a new SRAM 8/9 speed quality one. So far I have done nearly 300 miles with no problems whatsoever.

  • Does the chain get very sideways when using the highest or lowest sprockets with a single chainwheel?

  • The biggest problem with eBikes is the law is too conservative in Europe, Australia & NZ.

Those lycra wearing cyclists can easily go faster than an eBike.

  • I replaced the controller and swapped out the hall sensors in the hub motor for more sensitive ones. The controller had a link wire for UK legal speed limit restriction which I replaced with the Wisper's on/off switch giving me 15Mph or 22Mph assistance for "off road use only!" The Cyclone works on RPM and providing your battery can provide enough current you increase speed or torque by using the bikes gears. It worked ok but neither is perfect but better than most Ebikes I have tried so far.

  • what modification did you make?

    What is off road mode?

  • Um not sure what happend there, I have amended it now though and added a bit for good luck

  • description is incomplete, this was .... ?
