  • IF THIS BECOMES A TOP COMMENT I WILLL GET THIS FOR EVERY ONE LOL

  • wow !!! Awsome :))

  • where can i get a HYDROPHOBIC?? tnx

  • make car wax like that!

  • @MegaBLACKMESA That's what I'm thinking XD

  • umm i thought they were called aqua sand

  • redstone???

  • its kinda stupid to call it "magic sand" since you are scientists...

  • @leonidasmark "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." - Arthur C. Clarke

  • @EducateInnovate well played sir

  • wow omg this is very heppy

  • aqua sand?

  • when i played with mine , it made my hands sliver and then water would not do nothing with my hand !

  • @thegrouchmonster101 If you get the hydrophobic coating on your hands, it's going to be very hard to wash off because it repels water. In my experience, however, you really have to rub the sand all over your hands to get the coating to rub off on your skin like that.

  • @EducateInnovate

well i guess i rubbed the sand a lot , and it was not hard to wash off , i used soap ?

  • @thegrouchmonster101 That is good. I suppose it would be a handy way to make oneself water repellent. Fortunately, soap will still work.

  • @EducateInnovate That's the whole point of soap! :D

  • what happens if u put magic sand in soda? or juice?

  • @KhmaiBodian559 It might bind with some of the stuff that's in the juice or soda, and drag it down to the bottom. Magic Sand does bind with oil, so it might bind with other things as well. It just might be hard to see what's going on unless you use very light or clear juice or soda.

  • What happens if you stir the sand into the water..?

  • @Sephu It will settle down into clumps rather than mixing in with the water.

  • This sand is fun to play with but it is really irritating when some of it remains floating on the surface of the water, especially when you scoop some out

  • watch house hold hacker scientific tuesdays to know how to do this!!

  • where can you buy all this??!!!

  • @firelightsage You can buy this at our website. teachersource . com

  • If I had gloves made of that sand.. I could hold a bead!

  • moon sand much

  • @SuperJeffhardyfan01 Those two things have similar properties, and we also sell Moon Sand, but they are separate products.

  • @EducateInnovate so this one is different?

  • @SuperJeffhardyfan01 Yes. Moon Sand is lightweight and somewhat powdery. It can be molded into shapes and will stick together. Then it can be crumbled back into sand. Magic Sand is gritty. It is actual sand that has been coated with coloring and a hydrophobic substance that is a little shiny. It does not pack together. Magic Sand sinks in water. Moon Sand usually floats.

  • @EducateInnovate Ah cool

  • @EducateInnovate is that how they make aqua sand?

  • @macsandnerfreview I am not sure, but I would not be surprised.

  • @EducateInnovate so this is like aqua sand

  • @macsandnerfreview Similar, but ours costs so much less.

  • big deal. bee pollen does the same thing. what's the advantage ?

  • @MrRcheek This can be obtained without assaulting bees. And if bee pollen is also hydrophobic, you could certainly do a demonstration comparing and contrasting both. Our main market is teachers, so our products are usually made for classroom demonstrations and experimentation.

  • @EducateInnovate , I meant no disrespect. I do thank you for your response.

  • @EducateInnovate . sorry, it does sound disrespectful on my part, full apologies.

  • we have this

    its so cool

  • that's really cool, but what would you need it for?

  • @fedupwithusernames Why does it need to serve a purpose? We use it to teach about hydrophobic polymers and discrepant events.

  • @fedupwithusernames @EducateInnovate Hydrophobic sand or "magic sand" was created to contain oil spills in large bodies of waters. It was to expensive to make so they don't use it for that anymore though.

  • @kalloused That's interesting. I did not know that. We now sell an Oil Spill Cleanup Kit that has a variety of substances that students can test out for that purpose. Magic Sand is not among them.

  • @EducateInnovate Yeah, other cheaper and more effective means have been intorduced since then. But "magic sand" is now being expieremented with gardening in very dry desert areas. Coating clay and sand region with the magic sand minimizes absorptions to help people grow crops I think is the working theory. There is a youtube video about it somewhere. So they are still finding more positive uses for it.

  • @kalloused Thank you for the information. That is very cool.

  • MOON SAND!

  • I WANT ONE!!

  • wow (not game :D )

  • more fun than black ops.

  • it looks like wax (of candle?) ;)

  • @frozenerv It has similar water-repelling properties as wax, but it's more like Scotch Guard (but not actually Scotch Guard).

  • mind=blown

  • "you can play with a bead of water"

  • moon sand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!xD

  • @poisonorso1999 We do sell Moon Sand, but this is a separate item.

  • i have that kind of sand its called Aqua Sand i bought it from a toy store

  • i Think thats Auqa sand i don't have iiiiit but i hope it one of my present

  • The spoon (the white color) is like a H2O that i tried and put water on it, it dosn't essour the water.

  • aqua sand???

  • i wanna cover myself in that and go swimming.

  • or your can do that with aqua sand

  • I have this

  • you could also do that with flour or some powder

  • @gexlord You're kidding, right?

  • lolololololololollllllllll xD

  • does it have to do with the coating being nonpolar and water being polar?

  • @looney1023 no, it does not

  • @hubertandclyde yes it does. its coated with a nonpolar oil, which repels polar water molecules.

  • They made a toy with that stuff

  • This is available from our website. The address is at the beginning and end of the video, and it is in the description.

  • Where can I buy this?

  • play with a bead of water! wow! hours of fun!

  • wow cool!!!!

  • lol, the bead of water is just like playing with mercury!

  • oh yeah , i remember we use to have like those a long time ago

  • I loved that stuff!!

  • umm...you dropped it lol XD

  • aqua sand

  • i know

  • wooaaahh

  • How to do that !!! 5 STAR !!

  • i need to buy it thats so awesome

  • so what if my whole floor was made out of that sand a bit like carpet i could make a swimminng pool wicked :D

  • @509g1 or you could spill stuff and easy cleanup

  • тю, подумаешь, крошка материала не смачиваемая водой - про это еще в школе рассказывали)))

А если сделать крошку из материала с большим коефициентом смачиваемости водой - то вода будет к нему "липнуть" - тоже прикольно))

  • unbeleivable.. the bead of water looked pretty :)
