In this day in age, it's ever harder to protest (think of the Occupy protests crackdowns). I think its better to boycott products or take public office at the local/national level to have real influence on the free market.
Polo has better products than Gap because it can afford to pay the best designers. We all like to wear nice stuff. Overpriced? Absolutely. If you have money, pay for it. If you don't, well go to Gap. What I see is wrong, is with the margin of profits, companies need to work these days in order to be considered successful. And to be able to keep the edge over the competition, they begin practicing business norms that aren't morally acceptable. So I guess yes, we could use ugly and cheap shit
Well have the evil empire ( globalist titans ) won this battle overall...? Yes. Which is bad news obviously. Ah, but will they win the war I hear you say...? The war is already won. You feed their war chest daily with all the shit that you buy and all the crap YOU watch on TV...YOU are the problem and not the solution. YOU are the one that feeds the hands that you allow yourself to bite...G...
See that is the problem...then what are we going to wear? We are trapped in this and these MNCs got all of the spots! Thanks for explaining in the end by the way... :D

Oh yes unions, the great savers of all. How about the discrimination of unskilled workers by those with jobs. Those that were lucky enough to get a low paying job are now making it impossible for the rest of the people to get the same by demanding more. To say that unions help the masses is silly, as the only people it helps are those that already have jobs and skills they probably learned on the job they currently have.
@sconl No one needs any of it, what they need is fair treatment and safe working environments. Believing that america has safer work conditions simply because we have regulations written in books is silly. If you went to bangladesh with an american code cook tomorrow it wouldn't do a thing to increase safety, becasue the cost of production would be too high. We as americans are very prosperous as a whole, that is why we have the chocie of allowing our kids to learn as oppose to work.
@sconl Also, things like the minimum wage and anti-discrimination laws have led to nothing but discrimination, both against the unskilled laborer and the minorities that are suppose to be protected by these laws. Why don't you go look at the employment rates of blacks in the years leading up to the signing of the Civil Rights Act and the years following. Youll notice no increase, and if anything a small decrease. If you thought "blacks were lazy," you would just pas on hiring them as oppose to
giving them a 2 week windown where they could work for less and prove they are hard workers. If we make it so firing someone who is handicap or and minority As unfair as it sounds, would you rather prove your worth, or have your worth go unused? This same scenario can be used for children, or the elderly or whatever. If someone only provides you 6/hr in productivity, why on earth would you pay them the minimum wage that is higher?
the answer is you won't higher them, and we now have banished a person who wished to be a productive member of society into the worthless eater bin, who cannot be hired unless they somehow increase their productivity.
Sounds to me like someone has a problem with the masses choosing what they want. For example, the Wal-mart censorship thing. If people did not like the censorship, they should not go to the store. If there was really a mass appeal for something, people will get it. Its called a free market. You act like no one else wants to make money other than large companies. Wal-mart only came to be after beating out Sears by offering better services to the masses.
I guess they should just pack up & move away, as I'm sure most people who have no choice but to shop at places like Walmart would have no problem doing.
This is explaining the problem but it is still functioning in the same system as gaga and bieber. Naomi Klein still wears makeup, dyes her hair, fills her car with foreign oil, and so many other things that supports the capitalist imperialist.
Yeah, she should live in a hut, ride a donkey, and communicate by drumming on logs - That would be the best way to get her message across to the largest audience possible.
@sconl My first/main sentence was she was making a point. She's just completely complicit. She is acting on disaster capitalism. I bet since the economic disaster her theories have been purchased even more.
@atheistfreethinker17 i know this video because i am in college!! don't lose hope in humanity yet, uni will be a great arena for you to challenge and discuss your thoughts and ideas :)

Right - Child labor laws, work place safety, minimum wage, sick days, time off, anti-discrimination laws, overtime...
Who needs any of that?

What if it's the only store in their area?
What if they can't afford to go anywhere else?

Why not discard the label "export processing zone" and call these things what they really are -- concentration camps?
denelson83 6 months ago 2
@denelson83 mostly because those abusive factories are staffed by people who want to be there, as the alternative is even worse.
Nonamearisto 6 months ago
@denelson83 well that's a bit harsh. they choose to work at the "camps"
