This is one of the most crooked moves in the history of the US Congress. The Democrats are repealing a law they made 5 years ago to keep a then Republican governor from appointing a senator. Now that their party has the governship they're changing it to make sure they have that vote on a specific piece of legislation before Congress. Extremely crooked, dishonest, a perversion of the entire process. Must be unconstitutional somehow. Frauds. SCUMBAGS, everyone who supports this.

Gov. Patrick should appoint Vicky, Ted's wife, to serve as the interim Senator. Ted would have approved; she will faithfully vote as he would have; she gets a nice honorary position and title; and then she should step aside for Senator Barney Frank or whoever.

The difficult part may be getting someone appointed who would not run. On the other hand the person can set themselves up for 2012, and just sit out the 'special election'. I don't think that would necessarily be a bad thing, depending on who that person is and how they represent the state in the meantime.
