i'm from portugal and i think that everyone here is agains this decision even the portuguese organization...the french have opened a gap for more atacks of this kind it shouldn't have been canceled..at least a few days here in portugal...and "every one" would be happy...

by the way, imagine. u r a racer, buy a car 4 this, buy a kit, spend a lot money on the journey. = u can fuck it, becouse racing stuff can not be selled at the same price. Big companies, who care, they are not people, just a name, but small fishes: months or years of income: gone. This is so much like higher interest, who do not care about the cosequences. I dont think the racers wouldn' start.

Dakar is not only the drivers. It's enormous number of press, journalists, spectators, tourists and other people on neverending "nowhere" full of sand, sand & sand. I can't imagine how those "french bastards" would protect each person on such a big area, like mauritanian desert.

Although you're right, they should announce this earlier and cancellation of Dakar 2008 can have naughty consequences in the future...
