I'm in the same situation, I just bought a 1985 V65 magna with 3500 miles on it and the carb were a battle to get out, and everything was frozen and locked up and it looked like the inside of the carb were covered in maple syrup. :) Did you have any other other than the solenoid, and hose?
@mrtrump As a matter of fact, the contacts in the fuel pump started acting up when I was taking a ride, that thing is murder to push home, lol. We found some info online about cleaning the contacts, but it didn't help so he has to buy a new fuel pump for it.
Awesome, thanks so much for taking the time to reply. Can't wait to get started on mine!! It's still hard to believe they stuffed a 4cyl in there... :o)
It might just be me, but it kinda sounds like the starter gear is stuck out or something... Is it just the camera mic? Also, you said you had to pull & reinstall the plenum 4 times to get it right, any tips for getting it back in & lined up with no leaks? Just gotta V65, bout to do the carb cleanin dance, so any help would be appreciated... :o)
@fieroboom I pulled the tank completely off, the carbs come out the left side. The top of the airbox has to come off to make room, too. It's not easy to get it back in, but one trick is to loosen all the rubber tubes and angle them all toward the center, I also wiped the insides of them w/grease. Get the rear 2 carbs started, then lean the plenum forward to get the front 2 started. I used a pair of short 2x4's to pry it down and forward until all 4 popped into place.
