@frankns Thanks for the Star & Garter pics. Looks bigger than I remember, only went in once, wierd pub plus at that time was best not to be seen in a pub NOT selling 'Watney's Red Barrel' which really had to be the worst drink of all time !!! I reckon the S&G was a BYB.
I made this video for a mate who grew up on the estate, I added the last pic for him. It was great estate, I was a paper boy there many many years ago, they all made me very welcome.
Great video - what a sad loss some of these establishments are. I can remember going through the back yard of the Keel Inn to school - the smell of beer and fags was so strong!

Not all these are gone of course. Feathers, Mexborough, Castlefields, Jockey and Griffin for example.
Only just though.
I have compiled a list of over 60 from the census and trade directories.
The Ship was my favourite and at least the building still stands.

I used to go to a nursery there as well. You can still get the same beer smell at some old pubs (over the cellar door), brings back the memories.
