India does not want to be an ally of the US. India simply wants co operation from both Pakistan and the US to deal with the terrorists that it has over time captured but did not have the means to deal with them specially when the country had to suffer consequences through sectarian violence. Over time, India has appealed to the UN for help and I personally think it's a better channel mostly because terrorism is a global migraine.

Some in the US are proposing to leave only a force of JSOC (Special forces) of 40,000 behind in Afghanistan. Right now they have a footprint of 140,000 which would be very expensive to supply through the aerial route from Central Asian neighbors of Afghanistan, ie; cut Pakistan out of the loop.
