in my game tonight our goalie got a game misconduct for mouthing off to the ref on a blow call. hes our only goalie so i have to play goalie next game. this video helped me so much thanks a bunch!!!
Finally! that's the secret to lateral push and powerful movement on the ice. I have the most powerful legs of all my friends and couldnt make the movement from post to post. Cant wait to try that on next game being not putting the knee on the ice on lateral pushes.
I've spoken to Steve Mason before, and he said he uses the full blade. That said, some goalies may use the toe or heel, but judging on what I've been told by Steve, and from personal experience, the whole blade would ultimately lead to the best push possible. No need to start a YouTube comment fight though.
THANKS!!!! for posting this video! this is the first video i've seen that give you both front and back side view of each example. though i can't do it, i'm understanding the butterfly technique alot better after watching these clips. plus the information is great! thanks again!
Great tips!! Thanks , just sucks for me that I don't have ice time to practice this. I have maybe 5-10min before game to practice this :( . It's exhausting :P
are you wearing a player skate in a goalie cowling? i heard its been done before for more support but it looks like the back piece catches on ur straps if thats what your actually using
i have a question, how loosed do you do your pads/skates? before i would do skates and pads sort of tight but now i do them loose. i might go a bit more loose on the skate area though. the only strap i do tight is the one right above the calf to keep the pad on my leg and in position with my knee. do you do them all loose? i've noticed a big difference while trying to load and gather with loose pads.
I like to keep my skates pretty damn tight, otherwise I'll get blisters. As for the pads, it depends on your pad, but here's my setup:
The straps near the shin are pretty tight, and the rest above are sort of in between a loose and medium setting. My thighboards are also pretty loose. If you're playing a stand-up game though, tight pads are the way to go.
I like to get my skates sharpend every couple of games. I have the Rkb skates that have nut and bolt that hold the skate pade in. So i can replace them whenever i feel that they get too low.
3/8ths for normal goalies i personally get them done at 3/16ths which is as sharp as the machine goes, since i play at a high level movement on the ice is really important adn the sharper your skates the better you push
and i need a good skate sharpen i've tried 3 so far, i need one that allows me to do butterfly recoveries easier and quicker cause sometimes the push just bails, hopefully i can get some videos when i gewt my ice in JUNE with my new pads and everything
Well when the push bails its probably becuase you used your toe to push off not your whole blade, when doing on the ice lateral movement (lateral adjust) try making it so your bad is completly verticle before you push, any skate sharpened at 3/8ths or more (1/2 or 3/16) are sharp enough for any push its just the goalies execution that can mess up a good push
idk man im gunna be making videos soon in JUNE, i have 3/4 nright now, 1/2 is more sharper, or 3/16 is the sharpest i heard that its im possible to stop and everything what should i move into ?
Not sure what kind of editing software you have but it would be great if you could show the movements and techniques while talking the viewer through it step by step. You would be able to fit more into each video that way instead of talking then showing the visual, but thanks so much for posting these, great to see free goaltending tips. Happy Holidays
hey, thanks alot for these videos. i am 14 years old, and am in bantam A, but i am looking to get better on my backside push to the left. i can do it fairly well to the right, since i am left footed, but not so much to the left. do you have any tips on how i can improve it? thanks alot.
Well I'm not the guy in the video, but some tips that I have for you are to make a slideboard (buying one is a bit expensive), or try this out in practices. You'll want to be flush up against the right post and then push off. This is easy, but try doing it a good 30 times in a row. Once this 30 becomes easier, increase it to a bigger amount. Eventually your right foot will get used to it. Also doing a good amount of squats everyday helps!
that was a great tip i've tried it and become better fast i have a question about these videos are they downloadable from any site of program because watching them on the computer is one thing but i want to bring them to the rink with me
omg, ive been looking for this level of detailed instruction on proper goalie techniques since i started playing .. finally someone who knows what their talking about!
what i've been dying to find out is how to flair my butterfly stance. and before watching this i thought you kept your leading knee on the ice. no wonder i only move a few inches. thanks a ton for this and i hope to get a response. if you could send me a message with your reply that would be great. btw, arent you that guy that did the video in your goalie gear terrorizing the public? hahaha. i'm pretty sure it was you. you are a crazy man, then again your a goalie so i guess it's only natural.
... ... I completely lost you on that last one lol. No that was not me.
Secondly, it's just a matter of working on your flexibility. You'll get there eventually. Hell, when I started, I couldn't even get it anywhere near wide, now it covers almost the entire bottom of the net :]
well theres a video out there of a guy with your exact pads and i'm pretty sure he looked like you. he went to get money from an atm machine and then filled his car up. i think he even jumped into the sand on the beach. it was a while back and if i find it i'll link you. but thanks for the pointers. i hope i can get my stance wider. i'm 6'3 and i can naturally do the splits(close enough anyways) so i could be lethal. haha. :] thanks again.
Corey, I believe has taken a break and might return. As for the fourth video, it's just some in-game examples of went to implement what he taught. I'll upload it sooner or later ;)
Well you do realise I only uploaded the video after it being deleted and lost, Corey Wogetch made it. He used to be an OHL Goalie. If you were talking about uploading the video, thank you =D
im 14 and just started because are team needed another goaile and i could use alot of help

If you like the players blades, then just buy the rbk 9k's or buy the cheapy 3k's and add the "trust blade" (same thickness of a players skate blade)
