Yes L.D. is a genius, probably had more to do with Seinfeld's success than jerry himself, but lets not forget L.D. quit writing for the show after season 6 of seinfeld. Jerry did most of the writing for the final seasons, and I think he did a great job.

But even as a stand-up comedian he has a certain charm and appeal, I think. He is "real", congruent with his nature/persona/inner self, he doesn't try too hard or put up an act. I, for one, find his energy and quirckiness to be the funny elements, rather than the material.
