agreed with the not-very-usefull comparison, iphone 3gs is not camera, its just an awesome powerfull CPU included in a very thin gadget with great multitouch stuff
n86 is just another s60v3 with better camera, if you look for a great symbian gadget with powerfull video/photo features, n86 is good choice
but i think that nobody that have bought the iphone 3gs choice it for his camera xD, it really sucks, but the pandora-like CPU ROCKS HARD (really hard)
It's a valid comparison. Both devices are the flagship from each company in terms of image/video capture. It just so happens that Apple only makes 2 devices! ^_^/
Well we know that iphone nevr will be a camera-phone, but how moany people actually take that much video's? Get a camcorder if you want video's. But i guess it does the job .
It already *is* a camera phone. The photos it produces are good enough to print at A4 (I know, I've tried) and contain more than enough resolution to display at full res on a 1080p monitor. While I agree with your advice to 'get a camcorder', both the N86 and 3GS will act as superb 'stand-in' SD camcorders.
Yeah 'stand-in' but nothing more. camera phone's will never replace a camcorder. Why would they want to try that? And i'm sure the camcorder companies wont be verrry happy with that. So they will make better camcorders again. So kinda think about it. it's a +/+ situation for us.
i always thought that, but replacing my n97 as i hate it, and looking at different phones to see which one i want, and came across the samsung omnia, it has an 8 mp camera , but its in hd. and the quality is brilliant. i have spent 3 days looking at phones by the way . why are there so many. lol.
I don't always have my camcorder with me, but I always have my phone with me, so a good phone camera is quite important to many people (myself included, of course).
Just an observation :P, bothy are very good at video though just in different ways, makes one wish one had both ^.^, hopefully the new iPods in September will also have a similar camera, my N86 would feel bad if it were to get a neighbour so soon :).
btw why are phones so expensive in the UK? (unlocked or otherwise).
They're no more expensive than anywhere else. Don't confuse subsidised pricing with SIM-free pricing. e.g. the N86 is about 75% the cost of the iPhone 3GS, and depending on model of the latter etc. But you pay less for the latter up-front, typically, then pay a lot more in the long run.
My mistake then sorry, perhaps I should stick to chatting up the technical aspects of phones more, and less the economic ones, since I was obviously misinformed with respect to the latter.
Nokia phones have much better sound quality. I hated making calls on my Iphone, worst phone ever

Sorry but what kind of video comparison is that?
You cannot compare video captured different scenes with absolutely different light conditions.

I was only trying to point out the strong/salient points of each. It wasn't a quantitative comparison!

The 'comparison' was purely from this one point of view - I was in no way suggesting that the two devices are overall competitors.

must agree, the 3gs has only 3.2 mp camera so not in same class as a camera phone but not tried one yet, but heard they rock else where.

A fair comparison of the two, though would I be wrong in saying that the N86 would film much better videos if the codec were to be changed?
Also, it might be just me, but I am hearing sound only from the left speaker, or do the devices only record mono sound during video?
adtrea 2 years ago
Both devices record mono, plus my voice-over was mono.... The thing to concentrate on here is video quality though, not audio 8-)
