@VictumRoManius Muskets were used for a long time in the Civil War. Multiple shot guns like the Spencer or Henry rifles didnt arrive on the scene until the final two years or so of the war.

I dont think Sun Tzu applies in their example as the Germans Panzer couldnt take on planes. The allies could have bombed the pantzer tanks anywhere at anytime so luring part of them to one area wouldnt make a difference. .

They even specifically allied forces & commanders and things they did in particular battles or decisions. Before WW2, the hospitals were not as advanced, when a solider got shot, by a bullet at that time, the wound would get infected from the black powder and the opening, they didn't have anything else to stop the infection, and in order to stop the spread of the infection they had to amputate the wounded part. They also had no drugs, best thing there was raw alcohol to at least minimize the pain, so they cut of there arms and legs with full awareness.

@Ryagful The standard round at the time, if it hit bone, would destroy the bone. It would literately tear bones to tiny pieces of shrapnel. They had Chloroform at the time but when you have a pile of men with wounds there is only so much you can do in such little time. Losing a leg was the least of your troubles any how, most deaths during the civil war were not from battle but the conditions of camp life.

Well this series is a bit out of sense, they take the battles in villers bocage and portrait it as the deive battle. However thats nonsense the major battles tehre were caen, operation cobra and the operation goodwood was a allied fail, losing 400 tanks against 75 destoryed germans....

I wouldn't be suprised if they're so biased that they leave something like that out, but it'd be nice if someone could clarify this point.

The army hospital thing makes me chuckle because I think it was my great grandfather who went home with the bullet in his leg, refusing to go to the hospital after getting shot at Antietam.

yes you can say is brave for not going to the hospital after being shot. But remember carrying wounds like that can get infected, the result can be losing the leg. Which isnt nice? A solder with a single leg on the battlefield. That's just going get more of ur team mates killed, when they are trying to safe you.
