  • epic win.

  • he has got 1 or 2 triggers for his left thumb enabling the nice runs.

  • James is a thorough gentleman, first class all the way!

  • man I can't believe he's controlling the notes on that 'bone without the slide. I don't know much about trombone but I'm sure he would have need to move the slide at least once. James Morrison is the shit!!!!!

  • It's because he has an F-attachment trombone. When you put down the trigger it forces the air through more tubing, lowering the pitch. This allows you to play 6th and 7th position notes in 1st and 2nd with the trigger. He is an amazing trombonist, however its not hard to do what you mentioned.

  • true true. still very hard to coordinate that though. props to him.

  • Trigger

  • @unigamehead he has an f-attachment on his trombone, i think, so that might help

  • OMG THATS CRASY SO FKING AMAZING!!!!

  • Holy crap! That's pretty amazing!

  • chrispatton168, you are sadly misguided. Have you ever met James? I have, on several occasions. He is a thorough gentleman, anything but egotistical. As for his playing a duet making him a 'douche bag,' answer me truthfully, if you could do what he does...wouldn't you?

  • i love how he uses the same solo in every song he does =)

  • sry to be rude, but

chrispatton168 ur the most fucked up ass i've ever met, what a fucking idiot, dude ur such an idiot, it shows what a fucking loser u must be since u hate the dude because u cannot play as well as he does, I hope that ur not a brass player, its a shame

  • This guy also plays sax and flute just as well as trumpet/trombone, and probably piano, too. Arguably the most talented instrumentalist alive today.

  • this guy is an arrogant prick. He's super good, but I kinda want to punch him in the face.

    Music should be shared!

  • At last! I was beginning to think I was the only one who thought this!

  • ?? You are a moron. Have you ever even met JM? He's a very, very cool cat.

. . . and the Cat Can Play!

  • who is the douche bag here?

  • @chrispatton168 you sir, are teh FAIL

  • Met Mr. Morrison in Prague last year...and he was exactly the OPPOSITE of an arrogant prick. Gave me some good tips--very cool--humble guy. Way cooler than most--and he plays his ass off on everything. Stop the hate man.

  • James is an elite musician and also, a verry funny bloke. Hes not just a musical act but on the whole an entertainment machine.

  • @chrispatton168 obvious troll is obvious

  • this man is awesome...he is trombone player or trumpet player? loool he is very amazing

  • impresionante

  • WoW

  • I can hear/see that he's a god, that inspires me to practice more :P

  • it is so awesome !!! trombone with trumpet? totally different embochure!!!! omg!!!

  • But when you're as good as he is, it becomes to easy ;)

  • That's totally wrong. Same embochure. Just a different size cup.

  • well, sax man, thats like me saying, 'hey a sax playing doing a duet with himself on flute and saxaphone, eh same type of instrument, same way to play it.'

The fundamental differences between the low and high brass arent impossible to overcome, but they are well beyond bore size.

And a reminder; Brass players dont need 27keys to sound amazing.

  • I didn't get that information from myself. Ask Mic Gillette. I'm pretty sure he knows how to play. I don't even understand the keys thing. That's just how you change the pitch. we can't have slides or valves. Neither can pianos. and technically trombones can have an infinite about of positions.

  • oh snap get 'em

  • As a 'bone player who's currently trying to learn the trumpet I can say this: it is NOT the same embouchure. It's the same thing as saying a bassoon and clarinet have the same embouchure. It's just wrong, man. You use very different muscles in the face. That's my two bits, anyway.

  • Yeah your right. The closest to bone is euphonium, which if you have the right mouthiece slots, you can use the same mouth piece between them.

  • I have met him and he is AMAZING

  • it is so hard to switch from trumpet to trombone so quickly and he makes it look so easy...really amazing

  • ...cool. I'm not that good at the Trumpet to play somethin' like this yet, but it may be cool with a Clarinet and Basstrombone.

  • umm, how do you play clarinet with 1 hand........ unless you use a gay neck stap lol

  • You play notes that use one hand, and my Clarinet has a weird thumb rest for your top hand too...It's out on the side, kinda, and wraps around the base of the thumb. I'd have to get creative with the lack of notes I could play, but it'd work somehow. Are you a reed player, or are you just making fun of neck straps?

  • i'm a reeds player, and am making fun of neck straps on clarinets, totally unnessacary, but your clarinet is apparently too cool for every one else...

  • Wait, what does playing Clarinet have to do with this video??

  • doesnt his ambessure hurt after a bit of that?

  • dudes a monster

  • How is he playing different notes on the trombone without using the slide?

  • trigger...?

  • Yup.

  • trigger wouldnt create enough notes. james morrison is just so good at what he does that he can play the different notes using just his lips and airflow

  • Actually, in this particular case it is the trigger. I just tested it myself, it works with just first position and the trigger. Granted, you have to commit one of the ultimate sins of trombone to do it(Playing Ab in First), but it /does/ work.

  • With an F trigger you can get the Bb bebop scale

  • Exactly! I'd like to see him try and do this duet in another key!

  • I wouldn't put it past him. He's a phreak.

  • i couldn't tell from the angle but it might have been a superbone?

  • its not

  • Seriously, I would like to know if there is ANYONE else on this planet that can actually do this (self-duets on trumpet and trombone) to a similar standard of excellence as James Morrison! Please inform me if there is.

  • Clark Terry does muted trumpet to flugelhorn. Not as good, but its still pretty cool I think theres a vid on youtube somewhere.

  • GREAT!!!

  • I have been hearing about this guy since 1990 and never got to see him do this. I love his music and his sound. I think my favorite album is snappy doo.
