@oaklandstudios Nice, I also built a small laser. A CO2 Laser of only 60 Watts. When testing it. I hoped it would etch small pieces of wood. I fired it at a 2X4 across my garage. A short pulse. When I examined the 2X4 it had a hole completely blown threw it...I checked the sheet rock behind the 2X4, yep hole completely thru. I have since turned power way down for laser etching. But, I'm sure this YAL-1 is capable of working when fine tuned.
I always loved this show but at the same time also feel very strongly that nobody should know what our military has or how they work, especially air it to our enemies.

@eag11e It's possible. If you construct the missile as usual, but then affix highly reflective covers over the body, you can tecnichally reflect a laser. It doesn't have to reflect all of it, just enough so that preassure in the fueltank doesn't reach critical levels.

@bawsaq @bawsaq video was posted in 2007, probably no material was known to accuratly reflect laser at this speed/altitude/whatever. You can also be smart, think of it and have no budget to study further a possibility to go through reflective materials (or even have no clue at all). In the end i obviously know nothing in building laser which is why i asked this question. All i know is that mirror reflects laser. Don't tell me in 2011 they can't build such missile?...

@oaklandstudios Nice, I also built a small laser. A CO2 Laser of only 60 Watts. When testing it. I hoped it would etch small pieces of wood. I fired it at a 2X4 across my garage. A short pulse. When I examined the 2X4 it had a hole completely blown threw it...I checked the sheet rock behind the 2X4, yep hole completely thru. I have since turned power way down for laser etching. But, I'm sure this YAL-1 is capable of working when fine tuned.

@pROTPANDA No you have no idea what you are talking about. A mirror with a less than 99 per cent reflectivity rating would only enhance the heating of the missile. To mirror coat a missile with a reflective surface of 99 per cent would be weight and cost prohibitive. In addition it would have to be constantly polished even fine dust would render it useless.

@eag11e It's possible. If you construct the missile as usual, but then affix highly reflective covers over the body, you can tecnichally reflect a laser. It doesn't have to reflect all of it, just enough so that preassure in the fueltank doesn't reach critical levels.
Also, look in to this! The guy you think is about 5 years old, he's 20. There are programs for people that lack respect and manners aswell.

Most missiles spin fo this reason - if you spin a missile it is not possible to focus on one area.
My understanding of the true purpose of this is much more sinister - to blind enemy pilots...
